Remote on Windows 10 does not find USB DAC anymore

Hi,

I am running ROCK which plays fine to several Bluesound devices in the network.

I also have a Windows 10 PC which runs Roon as a remote with a Schiit Bifrost 2 USB DAC. This has always been playing music but today the DAC does not show up in Roon anymore. Sound is playing fine from the DAC in Windows and other players.

I also wonder why there is no “refresh” button in the audio settings of Roon. I think I remember that there had been a refresh button in the top right corner.

Several reboots of Windows and the remote have not solved the problem.

Turn off the PC firewall and see if the dac shows up. If it does you need to create exemptions firewall roon roonserver raatserver etc. Windows has a sneaky habit of killing previously set exemptions.

The DAC is directly connected to the Windows PC via USB.

There is no networking involved, so your advice does not help in my case, I believe.

Besides Roon remote not finding the USB DAC anymore, Roon remote is running fine. Also other players can play music via the USB DAC (Qobuz and Tidal native players).

Your Core is Rock on a different PC, so yes, network involved. Local devices on your windows PC are discovered by the core and the core aka Rock PC creates the audio zone. If any thing breaks the network discovery process, like a firewall, then the core will not generate the audio zone.

Wow!

I switched the cable router and this seems to have messed with the windows firewall settings apparently.

It was indeed the solution, many thanks!
