Description of Issue

Cannot browse to network share
Cannot connect to Synology share or Windows 10 PC share.
This worked before
Existing shares no longer work

When adding network share I get

“Cannot connect to share. Host not Found”

It looks as if core cannot resolve DNS to find network devices.
Using IP address for share does not work either.
Backups failing as well for lack of share access.

Had recent power shortage
Internal storage works but my most important playlists are broken.

This sucks, we need to get me fixed ASAP
I just paid my yearly subscription and I cannot even use Roon.
I have seen several other threads with similar error messages and behaviour with no solutions offered

That is saying that it cannot find the the remote PC on your network. There could be several different reasons why. Since, you’ve had a power outage, I assume that reset your router as well. The first thing I’d check is if all the devices are in the same IP range. If one thing had a static IP set, then all the others could be on a different IP subnet.

Yes we are way past that. Network is good router is good everythin can find everything else except Rock cannot find Synology share. I enabled SMB on my Win !0 PC and now can connect to share.
I have enable SMB services on the synology but still no joy

BTW, I can browse to the Rock web UI from my PC and Rock can connect to that PC once SMB has been enabled. My PC can connect to my Synology shares. Thats pretty much proof that the issue is not network related. To troubleshoot from Rock I would have to access the Roon OS and do some basic command to prove access to Synology.
I have tried browsing to Synology by ip and name no luck
I believe I have pretty much proven the issue is access to Synology (DSM 7.1.1) share as now Rock can add a Windows file share.
I have enabled SMB 2 and 3 (no large MTU)
Do I need a wins server for Roon to work?

And this is the connection string you are using?

smb://[IP_Number]/[Share]

I have tried that error Invalid network path specified. prior configuration was \NAS Name\share which worked

And, you’ve double checked the IP number.

As a test, you should be able to enter

\\[IP_Number]\[Share]

into your file manager and have it go to that share. Does it?

Syn has an interface called File Manager is that what you are referring to? or are you talking aboy the settings->storage->add network share frome Roon remote to Rock?

Nope. The file manager of the Windows PC.

Not sure what that is but I type that string into run, search, or file explorer (network path) and yes it works. it also resolves by name. BTW I have the share mapped as a network drive on my Windows 10 PC which is the host for Roon remote

That is the file manager for Windows.

Ok Roon pushed out an update today and after Rock reboot I can hit Syn. I have reinstated the shares I had before. Now my problem is how to restore my broken playlists from before.
When the original share quit working I blew away the share before I exported my playlist. That wiped the path to the file out. Do I restore my last successful backup to get it back?

I think that even if you generate a storage location that was identical to one that was deleted, it is really “new” in the eyes of Roon since it gives each storage location a unique ID which is tied to the existing music files. So, Roon could be seeing everything as new, and existing things as such playlists, play counts, and previous edits will be lost.

I would restore a backup and see if that works. Even if it doesn’t, you will have the original storage location restored which you can the “edit” to look at the new location and that should keep everything together.

The database is on internal storage. I don’t think I ever lost that. I’m pretty sure thats on the the same mount as the OS

I never lost my Library listings I lost access to the media file repository

Did you restore your backup?

Not yet, i added share back and roon started importin 40,000 files. I, putting it back the way it was before i do

I restored dtbase lost very little. I had tracks that were redlined as unavailible, I exported my playlist and and found the unavailible paths were no longer valid as I had disabled internal storage. I had to re-add cuts to playlist and remove the unavailibe entry from playlist.
Would a forcced rescan of storage have fixed the unavailible thing. Was there another way to edit the path metadata?

Hi @Mars2k ,

Glad to hear you’re mostly up and running after restoring the backup.

I would first re-enable Internal Storage. If you have relocated any music files, please see the below Knowledge Base article:

Please, let me know if this helps or if you have any follow-up questions, thanks!
