ROCK can’t access Time Capsule

I’ve moved my core from MacBook Pro to NUC7i7BNH and can no longer access my music stored in a Time capsule. I can access it outside of Roon with the MacBook and with my iPad using FileExplorer Pro (see screenshots below).
I’ve read all support threads and more related to similar problem and tried the solutions suggested but it didn’t solve my problem. What am I doing wrong? Any help from you guys?

Hey @Julio,

We’ve had similar reports of customers experiencing performance issues with the Time Capsule, but in many cases we’ve been able to get things stable. Typically the setup you’ve described would work with many network shares, but the Time Capsule devices can be a little tricky, so let’s try a couple other things.

First, please describe your network configuration/topology, including any networking hardware currently in use, so we can have a clear understanding of how your devices are communicating.

  • Have you tried rebooting the Core machine, networking hardware, and the time capsule?
  • Rather than using the IP address have you tried using the name of the devices? Is there any change if you use that instead?
  • Is there any change in behavior if you use CIFS instead of SMB?

Thanks,
Dylan

Hi Dylan. Thanks for following up. The TC is indeed tricky.
Yes I’ve rebooted the core multiple times, tried server name instead of IP and CIFS instead of SMB.
My network is quite simple. I use my ISP Modem/Router Sagemcom Fast3890. The TC, NUCi7 ROCK and one Usbridge are plugged directly to it by Ethernet. My other endpoints another Usbridge and DigiOne use 2 Airport Express ans a Sonos Bridge. The TC is in bridged mode and acts only as a file server (no WiFi network)

Thanks for the info, @Julio!

Yes I’ve tried both with no luck

Hey @Julio,

I’d like to propose a test which should give us a little more info here. If you create a shared folder on the Mac device with a couple of tracks in it, are you able to add that shared folder in Roon?

Thanks,
Dylan

Hi Dylan. Yes it works. I was able to share the music folder on the MacBook and access it through Roon.

Thanks, @Julio! I appreciate you testing that out, that helps to rule out potential networking difficulties.

Next, I’d like to enable some diagnostics on your account so the technical team can take a closer look. Before doing this, I’d like you to try to reconnect to the TC once more in Roon and reproduce the error. Please make a note of the time you do this and send that timestamp to me. With this timestamp we will be able to review the diagnostics report in relation to that time.

Thanks,
Dylan

I’ve just tried now. 21:29 CET

Thanks for the support. Very appreciated. Cheers.

Hey @Julio,

I wanted to reach out because I’ve been keeping an eye on our servers, waiting for the aforementioned diagnostics report.

For some reason it is not reaching our servers, even after I tried re-enabling diagnostics on your account. I also ran a quick test and I was able to submit a similar report from my setup here, so something else is going on.

So we can move forward, I was hoping for now you could use the directions found here and send us over a set of logs using a shared Dropbox link.

Thanks,
Dylan

Hi Dylan,
You’ll find the log here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bp1g56epzn20jz0/Julio%20-%20Logs.zip?dl=0
Please note that Ive replicated the problem just now 20:24 CET before zipping the logs. Cheers

Thanks for sending that over, @Julio! Passing the logs on to the team now. I’ll be sure to update you when they’ve provided their feedback.

Hey @Julio,

Thanks for your patience here while the team has looked into this. Based on the information in the logs you provided, along with the tests that we’ve performed, it appears as though this is a general issue with the Time Capsule devices and Linux. We did some research and found this to be a rather common problem, not just with Roon.

I’m sorry I don’t have better news for you here. If you have an external drive it may be a good idea to try using that instead of the Time Capsule for media storage.

If you have any other questions please let me know!

Thanks,
Dylan

Hi Dylan,

have a similar problem to that of the original poster - wanted to use a TC to hold the Roon backups of my ROCK server. Reading up on the problems between Linux and TCs, they are caused by the TC using the deprecated SMB 1.0 version.

Is this also the result of your analysis of the problem here between ROCK and TC?
