Rock will not connect to Mytek Dac

I installed ROCK on an i7 NUC. It went well and is stable. I have a WD 8TR usb drive, an ipad for remote and a Mytek 192DSD Dac. I can connect to the NUC with the Ipad and see my library but I can not connect to the dac. It does not see it. I am using the dacs usb 2 input and the external drive is a usb 3. If It connects I am home free. Any help wiil be greatly appreciated. If I can not use this dac than my NUC is useless. I am a novice at this and I just assumed that since usb 3 is backward compatible that it would be no problem connecting to a usb 2 dac. thanks

The Mytek 192DSD DAC is not UAC2 compliant and needs drivers in Linux (as well as in MacOS and Windows).
These are not included in standard Linux builds and it would seem like they’re not included in ROCK either.

@support Maybe you can bring clarity to this?

You might try the USB 1.1 interface as a test and see if the Mytek pops up in Roon.

It seems Mytek only provides drivers for mac and windows. I am currently running the 192DSD with a mac-mini and Amarra software. I put the i7 NUC together to move into Roon. some questions : Can I load windows and the full Roon on the NUC and use the window drivers to connect to the Mytek ? Can I load Roon on the mac-mini and use it that way or do the drivers have to be Linux regardles. The external drive I will be using has over 7 TR of music. Or should I sell the NUC ?

Yes, that will work when use Mytek Windows driver with Windows OS. Mytek 192DSD should able to connect to ROCK via ALSA. You should power the DAC first follow by ROCK. For native DSD support requires a patch, while DoP is in-built in ALSA.

@qdtjni is correct. If ROCK does not contain the special driver, your best bet is to run Roon on Windows on NUC.

IIRC, the Mytek USB driver for MacOS does not work well with later versions of the OS.
However, the Mytek FireWire driver does, meaning FireWire can be used instead of USB.

I paid for the subscription, Formatted the disk on the intel nuc loaded windows 10 Pro and then loaded Roon Server. I have tried the instal three times and Roon will not launch. I do not know what else to do.
system is Intel i7 Nuc, windows 10 pro, 8 GB ram, 250 GB SSD
WD easystore 8 TB USB drive

I cancelled my trial due to the mytek problem and then paid for the subscription a couple of weeks later. Could this be the problem ??

Hi @qdtjni, was curious how you were able to get the Firewire to work on Mytek Digital Stereo 192-DSD? I have the firewire cable running into the Mac firewire to thunderbolt adapter. Nothing. Even installed the drivers. I’m running OS Mojave. No response yet from Mytek support. Thanks for any insight! I can’t get USB or Firewire to work. Only toslink.

Thanks again.

That was quite a while back.
However, what I did was -

  1. Install the Mytek FireWire driver in my Mac
  2. Connected the 192-DSD DAC

That worked on my Mac Pro 2013 as well as on MacBook Pro 2013.
Mind you, this was quite some versions back of MacOS.
Unfortunately, I can’t remember which versions it was but the dates of my posts should give an indication.

As for the USB drivers, IIRC, they stopped working quite some MacOS versions back.
