Roksan K3 from the “spares” cave

I am having a tootle through my “spares” cave and found a Roksan K3 that I bought on a whim at a fire sale for a knockdown price.

I had been unable to find a use for it at the time of purchase, but, I have recently had some tinkering time, It is now connected to a Rpi 4 on Ropieee, feeding a Marantz amp which in turn has a pair of Wharfdale 505.2 speakers that I also bought as new old stock at a different dealer.

The amp, DAC and speakers are not state of the art, nor are they stylistically matched, but they do sound wonderful, especially with female voices and acoustic instruments.

Synergy is a wonderful thing!

I’m currently listening to Applewood Road.

I must tidy my wiring if they are to stay where they are. I’m very impressed with the Roksan, but I think it was too expensive when it first came out.

Is it a pre Amp?

The only thing I have from Roksan is the Artesa Turntable and I pretty impressed with that.
Not perfect, but very nice

No, it’s purely a DAC.

Ok I was not expecting that :+1:

It was the same price as the Chord Qutest when it came out and it’s sadly not as versatile or as musical as the Qutest so it was not reviewed well in comparison.

However, with the Marantz and running through the Wharfedale’s it sounds good with female voices and some trance electronica.

As long as you are happy with the sound and have managed to utilize something that was hanging around doing nothing, then that is all that matters :+1:
