rooExtend-Box: Plug-And-Play for Roon Extensions

Hi DrCWO,

I bought a rooExtend last year to be able to digitize my LPs. I never got it to work but now I want it to do.

Unfortunately, it is not without problems to get started even though I have a little technical knowledge. I cannot get rooExtend to accept my rooPlay license and when I want to create a rooPlay radio station, Roon informs me that there is no radio station at this URL.
Maybe it is connected with the license problem.

Should the RPi4 have the rooplay license activated?
BTW on rooExtend service page, it says about rooPlay license “License activation counts reached to max activation counts”

Hi @Leif_Jonsen,
please send me your rooPlay License Key so I can check what goes wrong.
If not licensed you cannot create a Radio station.

I think that’s my license are correct.
I didn’t mention that I have got radio station to work last year and I could hear channel sweep ect.

I send you my license in a pm.

Hi DrCWO
I have the the Quick keys control that I’m learning to integrate into my system, the quick keys default shows the music track timer as a count up display, How can i change this to a count down timer, showing only time remaining for the track? This is very important feature for me to show/indicate remaining time of track!

Thanks
Chris

Currently the timer only showns the play time and not the remaining time :cold_sweat:
I’ll check if it is possible to integrate an option to select backward counting. If yes this will be part of the next release.

Hi @Chris_Hayden,
This will be possible and available in the next release:

AWESOME, This is very good news! Thanks for the update!

Will still take some time to release as I have a big update for rooPlay and hopefully the new rooSpot that allows streaming of Spotify :+1:

Dear Dr CWO following the latest BluOS update my Rooextend/Microsoft Dial/Roowatch has all stopped working. The Rooextend Box unit simply shows a double flash every 1 seconds. I have tried a force update as per p49 of the manual without any effect. What do you advise?

Hi,
I just purchased and received the RooExtend box. Thank you!

I was able to setup the rooExtend extension in Roon. However, it doesn’t show
rooNuimo
rooMax
rooAIDJ

Which i would like to try. I just purchased a license for 2 of those. How can I enable them?
Thanks!

Hi @Jooxi,
rooMax will only show up if your rooExtend-Box has the latest Firmware and the USB receiver is plugged…

You can check this if you open Roon Settings/Extensions and lok for the rooExtend License Manager. Should be Version 3.4.2

The rooExtend-Box should update by itself at night between 2AM and 4AM. If it does not please download the rooExtend-Box manual from my Download Area. Starting at page 53 a procedure is described how to enforce an update.

Hello DrCWO,
Thank you for this info. I was able, with two resets, to get it to version 3.1.4. I will see with further resets if I can get it to 3.4.2 to get the Max extensions.

I now see the Nuimo extension in the license manager. I have enabled it, but Nuimo extension still does not show in my list of extensions. Is there anyway to get it to show, and to go straight to version 3.4.2?

Thanks!

The update takes a long time. It is not a good idea to interrupt that. It may destroy the SD-Card.

Please only ONE press on the button an then wait

Hi,
Understood, when I saw the extensions come back up, I assumed it was finished. I will wait.

I now see the Nuimo extension and will see if I can get it to work.
Thanks!

Never mind, my mistake! rooMax kept disappearing, but checking the logs on the web console, it reminded me it needed the special Xencel adaptor plugged in. Once plugged in it works flawlessly. Thanks!

Hi Di CWO,
I purchased a RooExtend box about a year ago. This has been working great, however, I recently had to move my equipment… After reconnecting the RooExtend box I could not seem to get it to boot / connect to my network normally…

Some details::

  • The (RooExtend) box (WAN connection) is wired directly to my router. I’ve made no change to network configuration, patch cable etc.

  • All other devices on the network are working fine. Patch cable & network port confirmed good with other device.

  • When I power up the box the front Sys LED goes perm red and then flashes red. The front “Lan” (not “WAN”) LED goes perm green. The rear “WAN” port LEDs are green perm / yellow flashing. The box remains in this state and I can see that it has not connected to my network.

  • I have obviously tried powering the box off, waiting >30 secs and then powering on again but cannot seem to get it to boot properly…

Some issue with the flash image?

Would be grateful for any suggestions re fix.

Many Thanks.

Coincidentally, I just came here looking for help with a very similar issue as @Paul_McCarroll. I recently powered off my rooExtend (was working great) to re-route the USB-C cable, and ever since I plugged the USB-C power back in, I have been stuck on solid red SYS light, solid green WAN light, flashing yellow WAN light. No other changes except unplugging/ plugging the power cable. Pushing the reset button seems to have no effect.

Hi Josh,
solid RED is not a good sign :cold_sweat:
Please download the rooExtend-Box Manual from here. Starting at page 53 the meaning of the blinking signals of the rooExtend-Box after power on are explained.

Please check this and let me know how far you got.

Back up and running after a re-flash. Thx for the prompt assistance DrCWO!

Hello DrCWO,
I have been a satisfied user of the rooExtend Box since January 2024. However, it has recently stopped working. According to the manual and LEDs (flashing twice per second), it hangs when initializing the firmware. I have tried the following so far:
Power supply interrupted for 30 seconds,
SD card reinserted,
Reset button pressed.
How can the problem be solved?
Version is 3.4.2. Last access to the box was possible on 30.12.2024.
