rooExtend – The easy start with Roon Extensions

Restarting Chromium is a hacky workaround :upside_down_face: but did not solve the issue. I will see if an new release of Chomium is available next week.

I have a new Rooextend which was working perfectly until a router reboot. Now the box is not recognized under Roon extensions. The red light is blinking rapidly (twice for every second) indications firmware update but seems to be stuck doing so. Any suggestions?

NB

Blinking twice a second means that it tries to boot and never comes to an end. This is probably caused by a defect of the SD-Card inserted at the front of the rooExtend-Box.
This may happen for example if there was a power loss during update.

To fix this I either can send you a new SD-Card or I send you a link to the SD-Card image. You can copy the image to the SD-Card with BalenaEtcher by yourself if you like.

Anyway I first need the invoice of the rooExtend-Box.

Thanks for the quick response. I can’t seem to find the email invoice. I do have the payment info from my bank though- Audio-Trade HiFi i believe?
I also have the original box… And proof of purchase of the RooWatch extension if that helps

Thanks

NB

Well, as this is a case of warranty I normally need the invoice. If you don’t have it any more I need your Real Name and your post address so I can check it with help of ATR.

Please let me know if you are able to copy the image to the SD-Card with BalenaAtcher?

I found the receipt in my junk email folder. How should I forwarded to you? And I can certainly try to copy the image to the SD card; I downloaded BalenEtcher

Hello

Have you had any opportunity to check upon Chromium?

Dirk

Well I installed the update some days ago and believe that this improved the situation. I also found a lot of posts in the net talking about trouble like this running Chromium in kiosk mode as I do in rooExtend.

I plan to offer the next release till end of November and it will be part of it. Also worked on the rooDial delay issue but with no success until now. Will continue when I got back from the Leipzig HiFi show where I am at the moment.

Also a new Roon Extension rooADI will be included for all RME ADI-2 users. I integrates device volume control so you can use Auto Ref. Level and change device volume in Roon and with the knob at the ADI-2. All in sync and also works with all my other volume controls. So you will see the blue lossless light in Roon and also can change volume there.

I forgot to revoke my licenses before moving to a different RPI. Now the licenses don’t seem to work. Is it possible to reset them? Thanks.

Hi @Tim_Nicholls,
if you still have the old Pi where you first installed the license you can go back to it and revoke it there. After that you can use the License Key with the new Pi.

If you don’t have it any more your current License Key cannot be used any more as it is connected with your old Pi. In this scenario you please:

  • Buy a new License Key.
  • Send me the old License Key
  • I will start the refunc process with Sellcodes so you get back the money you paid for the new License Key.

Dear Dr CWO,

my rooextend is not working an more. It worked so far.

roon says “No extensions discovered”. roon release since today 2.0 build 1353, rooextend latest release 3.2.0. I use the MusikServer of audiodata, they did also maintenance today.

The red light of the rooextend box is flashing every second second for around 1 second. I see rooextend in the network of my fritz.box, but I can’t enter the service side.

What to do?

Thansk a lot, Volker

dont know whether this is relevant: roon shows IP address 192.168.178.114 for rooextend, fritz.box shows currently a different address (192.168.178.228)?! Volker

This means you can see rooExtend in Roon Settings/Extensions but all its Roon Extensions are gone?
If yes this is a licensing issue. If rooExtend cannot check for validity at the Sellcodes License Server for a while, it disables the extensions.

Please open the settings of the License Manager and scroll to the end of the dialog, make a screenshot and mail it to info@definiteaudio.de

Slowly blinking means there is no connection to the Roon core! Please check the Ethernet Cable.

Dear DrCWO,

thanks for immediate response again.

I sent you some snapshorts. The EThernert cable ist connected, my router shows rooextend as connected. Strange.

I am using a Microsoft Surface Dial with a RPi zero & Roon. I have found the setup to have quite a bit of lag & the volume control particularly to be unreliable. Quite typically I have needed to try the volume control a few times before it works. Also, a few times in a few days of usage I have needed to restart the Rpi zero for the volume control to work.

I’m writing because I just had a very poor experience where the volume control jumped from the lowest volume rate (-80db - silent) to highest volume rate (6db - ear split-tingly loud!) when I simply turned the Surface Dial at all. It kept doing this whenever I retried this until I removed the batteries from the Surface Dial & reinstalled them. Now I don’t really trust the system!

Yep, I’ve also had the ear splitting experience. Also waiting for the 3 second lag fix

The delay with the Surface Dial is a known bug. DrCWO is working on that one. I can only advise you to go to version 2.3.3 Beta 5. This is an older version of RooDial, but it is not having issues with the tipcal delay of version 3.x
Good luck, Frank.

I’ve always had problems with the Surface Dial in the past. I then switched to the Spacemouse and things have been working perfectly since then. All the hassle is gone. The dial now has a nice place on my Ikea shelf next to a few other things that I no longer need. :sunglasses:

Fine for you that it works correctly with the Spacemouse. I only advice to use version 2.3.3 Beta 5 in case you are using a Surface Dial. With that version, the Microsoft Surface Dial is responding immediately, without any delay. So for those users that have a Dial and want to have no delay, please use version 2.3.3 Beta 5, and all will be OK. This is the case untill DrCWO can resolve the bug (which is apparently not an easy task).
