As volume via iPhone and Airplay works this should also work if you use Airplay from Roon. But in this scenario you are limited to 16/48 so no hires output to the Marantz.
My recommendation would be to use UPnP instead. Roon don’t support it but I offer rooUPnP
With it activated on your Raspberry Pi you can stream Hires via UPnP. There is a seven day trial License you can get for some few dollars. This is a recurring license every seven days. If rooUPnP works for you please let me know. Please don’t forget to cancle the test subscription before getting a lifetime or annual license for it.
In my download area you find the rooExtend-Box manual and the Quick Installation Guide helping you to set up rooUPnP. You also find a list of tested devices in there. There is one Marantz device in the list so there is a good chance that this solution will work for you.
If you prefer a free UPnP streaming solution you can also try out this solution and install it on your MAC for example.
Hi DrCWO, thanks for your input.
I have all ready tried installing Rheos, but never got it to function properly.
I will give the RooUPnP a try. This will route all the traffic through the Raspberry Pi, will it not?
Forgive me for being ignorant, but will an UPnP solution have any limitation on the channel count?
Best regards Per
You are right, the traffic will be routed through the Raspberry Pi. But this is digital data only and therefor there will be no quality loss at all.
To be quite frank I have no multichannel audio files so I don’t know. You have to try.
Hi DrCWO, I have the RooUPnP installed and it works good.
It was fairly easy to set up and it transfers the volume control to the AVR as you said.
Only problem is, that Roon do some channel mapping 5.1 —> 2.0
So I am not sure about the way forward and will spend a while to consider.
Thanks for your help…
Best regards Per
Sorry for that but as said: I never tested with multichannel. Do you have a lot of multichannel audio tracks? I ask because you are the first complaining about this missing feature…
No harm done - I got a chance to test it myself and could not make it work.
With regards to number of multichannel tracks, I wouldn’t say I have a lot, but it is my opinion, that for some albums it is really a major gain for the experience, so I would like to go further down that route.
There is by now quite a few Dolby Atmos high res tracks on Apple Music with very variable quality. Problem being, that you have to play it via the Apple TV or via Airplay.
