Been driving most of the morning and have experienced ZERO issues. my upload speed at home is 20mbps and I’m streaming all my content at 256kbps which sounds excellent on a car system. Well done The Roon Team:musical_note:
I agree but I do suspect this might be a transition phase with Roon ARC evolving to replace Roon Remote on phones at least. There are even what I take to be a few clues in the Roon ANC FAQ e.g.
“Does ARC control Roon Zones?”
Answer: “Not yet. … Allowing control of Roon zones is something we have planned for the future”.
I don’t see much point in supporting control of Roon zones in ARC unless Roon is at least considering evolving ARC to also be able to function as the in-home control app on one’s phone
If this is the direction of travel then presumably the choice was either to wait a fair bit longer for the all-in-one solution to be ready and stable or to get the mobile solution out much sooner by using a more stripped down app and then evolve that app over subsequent releases until eventually Roon Remote on phones (and maybe other devices?) becomes obsolete. If this is the case then I am glad Roon took the later path otherwise we’d still be at Roon 1.8 with no mobile capabilities today.
I downloaded Ubuntu Linux to my old Mac Mini (for free) and its works like a dream
Just an observation. Having successfully upgraded and connected Roon ARC to my core (Nucleus), I toggled Wi-Fi off on my iPhone and successfully played albums from my library via the 4G network while in my home. However, when I went for a walk the performance of Roon ARC was much more problematic although I was still connected to the 4G network, with messages along the lines of Core Unreachable and Poor Connection. Is this to do with distance or strength of signal on the 4G network? I’m in the UK by the way.
excellent solution …
tell me what mac you have and what version of ubuntu do you have installed?
(maybe put the link)
thanks for the suggestion
After update and adding ARC…I had to go to the grocery store…thought I would give ARC a spin…well it sounds very good! Better than iTunes sounds…hope I can delete iTunes now. Can’t wait to try it on my dog walk this AM…Hope it works with Bluetooth to my Apple Air Pod Max 'phones…
I tried out ARC, but have it does seem overly lightweight in terms of functionality. Currently I use USB Audio Player Pro with music downloaded on to a 256 GB SD card. My phone is hardly state of the art and doesn’t have a vast amount of internal storage. With UAPP I can also use PEQ.
ARC has no “download to SD” function and doesn’t include DSP. I know that these are on the roadmap and so I might revisit in the future. I understand that having one app to control all apps is great and I would certainly like to see the familiar Roon interface when I’m on the go. But UAPP allows me to listen offline, store music on my SD Card and use PEQ.
So I went for a ride this morning and tried out Roon Arc. I started a streaming playlist first and as it got to the third track, I noticed a spinning wheel (buffering) and no sound so when I stopped at a gas station I switched to a downloaded playlist and got the same buffering. I shut it down and when I got home I turned off my phones Wi-Fi and tried it again and it played fine so I don’t know what’s going on. I have an iPhone 13 pro-max and a Roon Nucleus and 12 hundred speed internet.
Bluetooth works fine with arc. Well I tested with some Cambridge Melomania1: skipping tracks, volume adjusting…
Yep, a few clicks here and there, takes maybe 90 seconds total. It’s exhausting.
Game changer for me. I used it for the first time in the car and am SO HAPPY that I can get rid of all my hacks for dealing with music on the road. Worked flawlessly even with a crappy cell phone signal… Love it!
You got my point!
Yes it sure seems to…on my 3.5 mile walk, it dropped twice…seems that with only 3 bars of reception (out of 5) it causes it to stop…which is a bummer…but sounds like almost new set of cans…It’s that much better than iTunes…now if only Siri would work like she does on iTunes…
Len-ski,
The same thing happened to me today. Before I left home, I decided to turn my core on to make sure–wasn’t positive whether my core needed to be turned on, but wanted to be safe. After being in the car for two songs, I started getting the little spinning wheel of death on the iphone screen. Got to work and checked again, same problem, plus a message that the connection was bad. I know the internet signal is good, so that isn’t the problem. My core should be running at home. I thought it was because I have an older model iphone, but yours is newer, so that’s not it…
I’ve read a bit about the new update and as far as I can see I will not really benefit from it
No changes to the actual features of Roon?
So it’s just ARC. So the ability to use Roon when out and about
I have Tidal app for this where I can download the albums so I don’t use my date whilst streaming .
Not knocking Roon by the way as a lot of people are delighted with upgrade
Am I missing something ? If not I may stay with 1.8 for a bit longer
Got a feeling that there will be more users with this same issue as there is nothing unusual about my setup. My phone is on the Verizon 5g network.
I just turned on Roon at my main system where I use an IPad as the controller. The IPad went into an auto install and when I opened Roon , Roon 2.0 was there. Thanks Roon. So, now the exploring begins.
Not missing much really. If you have your core and/or remote running on Apple silicon Mac(s), then v2.0 will run native which should bring benefits.
I have a Nucleus…I will hold off the upgrade I think.
