No, that seems to have been solved by a recent release. Previously if I tried to do a filter on the JS tag I’d get that empty screen. Now that Tag works. The problem is that we tend to report problems here, rather than improvements. That one was solved swiftly – in about 5 years!
Just under 50000 tracks. I have 2 main Tags: S (me) and JS (wife and me). They are split about 50/50. I also use other tags to show albums which are a problem, etc.
I am quite happy to move to another way of identifying albums/tracks rather than Tags if anybody can suggest this. But this all used to work (I had to use NOT S rather than JS in 1.8) but now has ground to a halt. I’m not looking for anything new, just a return to the wonderful 1.8.
Not sure about play history. I really would rather not erase that.
This is what I use to select tracks to play. I’m trying to play all the S tracks once. No good? It’s gone. And the JS tracks are played only after a 6 month break.
Maybe I could recreate Roon on another server and experiment? It should run on my Mac mini.
Attached images show what happens if I don’t reboot for more than a day. I can’t even get album view up or artists. And a search? You’re having a laugh. In this case, I restarted the iPad Roon app and things worked better. Not sure where the work is being done on these things…
Hi @Stuart_Dudman,
I think this is more of a question you need to ask yourself. Typically, most users don’t add this many items to their queue, but it all depends on your listening habits and how you like to listen.
Does performance increase when you have a smaller queue size?
We have a known issue we are currently working on in relation to libraries that contain high amounts of tracks using tags that you could be experiencing. The only workaround for now is to remove the tags. If you’re considering this, I would strongly urge you to create a fresh backup to save your database as it currently stands.
Outside of that, I hope to have more information from our developers soon.
I’d like to add less to a queue. Can I specify a queue size? When I just shuffle, I want to maximise randomness, so have a lot of tracks in the shuffle. But I don’t need a 5000 song queue. An option to limit queue size would be very helpful indeed.
I will leave tags in if you’re working on it. The phrase “known issue” is always reassuring – problems are only solved once identified. If I reboot daily, then I can live with bringing up albums and shuffling from there. Can’t filter on a track level anymore.
Any timing on this fix?
Yours excitedly.
Hi @Stuart_Dudman,
I dont have any information on specific timelines, but our developers are actively working on performance enhancements that I’m confident will apply to your issue.
How are you setting up your shuffle? Perhaps you can setup a smaller subset of your library to shuffle, that would lessen the overall queue size. It may take some experimenting
I’d be grateful if anybody could help me with the last one. How do I create a smaller queue given that I like to shuffle tracks from as large a set as possible?
And also given that I can’t filter easily because of other Roon 2 bugs.
I think I might be snookered but there are smarter people out there!
