The big dealbraker for me is whether or not I can use or access Roon while out and about or at work.

Roon mobile: remote streaming outside of the home [done]

Does the IOS or Android device running as a remote need to connect to the Roon core on the same network only or can the remote device access the Roon core from afar … say like my hotel room on a trip?

It would be great to be able to take the music away with us, via sync (or via streaming), directly to mobile devices. Space is not an issue for us lucky Android users whom have Micro SD card capability and for the rest, there’s always streaming. At present no, you need to have a Roon Core running locally (all devices on the same subnet).

It is possible to set-up a VPN to extend the home LAN so it’s accessible from outside (see Tinkering section of the forum). However, that’s not officially support by Roon.
