Good luck with that ask. But I don’t think Samsung is interested in your data, to be honest. This is too small a population.
“Company like Samsung “ I have a couple of Samsung products connected to the internet and a Samsung app. I haven’t noticed any problems. What is the exact issue with them.
Is Roon the only thing that your internet connects to?
I use both Roon and Apple Music, both installed on a headless mac-mini :
- Roon mainly for multichannel SACDs (via HDMI to AVR), then for CDs that I can’t find on Apple Music or that i want to Airplay 2 (which is not lossless it seems from Apple) to Sonos speakers e.g.
- Apple Music for all other lossless and hi-res music (not the ideal solution but cheap, I use a small usb converter to pass the music from the mac-mini to the AVR using optical and supporting 24b 192khz)
To use Apple Music remotely, I use the “iTunes Remote” app, mentioned by @BCBC, on iPad / iPhone. It’s a very simple app, not ideal to browse or discover your library - but it does the job if you know what you want to play and just want to lunch the music.
Also you have to add the music you want from Apple Music’s catalog to your library first in order to browse / see them in the itunes remote app.
And the recent talks about the next vision to integrate some “AI” into roon… for what purpose? I more and more think that this was never meant to be read/heard by customers but by others. Pure marketing buzzwords?
I guess you want to explain it to me then… Is a startup a company without a business case then? Hmm cool…
My view is this: you either believe in your company and want to be self employed, or you want to cash out on what you built up and sell it to the highest bidder. I understand both decisions, even though I only really have sympathy for one. But what you say is: a startup doesn’t have a business case but tries to survive by being sold to a much bigger company; economies of scale etc. I doubt that this will work.
I, for one, welcome our new audio overlords.
This endless speculation is entertaining.
So Plan B is to wait for BlueSound to open their proprietary BluOS Controller to integrate other streamers.
If you already have a Mac, use it. Apple Music Hi-Res to DAC via USB. There is a program that can switch resolution for bit-perfect output.
I was an Apple Music user, but I faced a few issues that brought me to Roon:
- Bit perfect, that can be solved via ResSwitcher. But it some times did not work.
- Multi Zone. Apple Music app on Mac does not offer this, and you have to thinker with the MIDI setup and combine/group outputs. Also using the Res Switcher.
- Remote. The Apple Remote did not work with downloaded hi-res tracks, they simple are not listed in the remote. It only shows tracks in your library that are not downloaded.
Roon solved all of the above problems. Had Apple provided a solution for above issue, I would have never swotched to Roon.
Wading in here.
I’ve considered the Internet gank to be the secret sauce, and I don’t think I’m the only one.
But I also appreciate that the audiophiles see Roon for something quite different to what a music lover would.
Even noting Roon is a broad church, it still is niche, and I’m guessing Harman have some idea of making it an Everyman application.
My $0.02 is that they will make a play for music lovers by having a stronger link with the record biz: I think the low hanging fruit with electronics integration has been picked.
But I’ve only been here for a very short time, and I’m almost certainly wrong.
I find the suggestion that Audiophiles cannot also be music lovers a bit condescending. Some might even say it takes more love to actually buy a lossless version of a piece of music than stream it, but to each their own.
Point taken. Yes, either way it is love for a completely discretionary pastime.
I don’t think anyone actually hates physical media do they? Dislike maybe.
I see your point.
Oh well. Now we can only wait and see what will happen in the near future.
Yes, I definitely shop with my conscience.
RAAT
I think Samsung bought Roon & chanelled the purchase through Harmon.
May I suggest that - even if we did a tally of optimists vs pessimists here in this (nearing 500 posts) thread - we’d really be no further forward?
We just don’t know.
If we speculated at all, maybe it would be on how much Harman (which has made some recent high-end audiophile acquisitions in recent years) did or didn’t change after Samsung acquired it.
Maybe we’d also be right to have faith that Enno knows what he and his staff are doing; and that they want the best for the entire enterprise - including us users.
My reply was in reply to a question by @SteadilyFred who asked a quastion to @Mediahound which was “Samsung devices don’t play Apple Music, @Mediahound?”.
Because I have 3 Samsung devices which CAN install and play Apple Music app, my reply was merely to answer that question by confirming it.
My reply wasn’t about the topic of the discussion. Also, similar to most people who likes various things, Apple Music is merely one of them. Streaming from Tidal is another one of my likes. Liking “Apple” doesn’t necessarily mean I like to use Apple phones. I don’t own any Apple iPhone and don’t intend to own one.
Just one ad in Roon, and I am gone. But let’s not get ourselves worked up. Nothing has changed thus far! Need to remain positive!
That was my only concern after reading the news. Hopefully that’s how this works out.
You asked… How long will this loop in an eternal circle? I don’t know. Hehe, reminded me to listen to folk rock oldie “The Circle Game” (1966) sung by Joni Mitchell. I will just relax, enjoy music and won’t bother to reply here anymore. Now realized it’s just a waste of my time replying or commenting anything here. Cheers.
