Roon acquired by Harman International [Feedback]

Whatever you do, do NOT let Harman or Samsung into
Your software development process: neither company has the slightest clue about the design/development process. Any attempt to rationalise or merge would lead to the demise of Roon.

OK, probably no need to speculate. We’ll find out soon enough.

Dear Sir, The ship has sailed, the horse has left the barn and Elvis has left the building.

With sellers remorse it may take two weeks

Driving? Sailing more like. The yacht brochures are well thumbed! :joy:

I also have to wonder…will Roon gain special Harman curve capabilities now?

Well, congrats on a successful exit…I guess. Happy to hear my recent lifetime subscription likely helped validate or increase your valuation…I guess.

I also will make an informed guess that Samsung/Harman will eventually screw this up. Everybody’s happy when they can report a great acquisition to shareholders, founders get paid, etc. Then comes the integration of the business unit into the borg and eventually the pressures to hit earnings, cut opex, hire new blood to “take it to a new level”, etc. etc. Sorry, I’ve seen this movie before and it rarely ends well for customers.

Well… I started using Roon maybe 3 years ago, and I got used to it, liked it and developed my home music ecosystem around roon ready dwvices, like NAD streamer/preamp, Chord Poly and Wiim, just to name few. Even with Roon ARC being a total mistake I am still an enthusiast.
It will be painful to watch Roon being devoured by Samsung and transformed into some sort of samsung-cast. At least we have some time to look for alternative solution, hopefully someone will fill the gap on the market.
It was a nice trip guys, hope you will at least get some money from them. Good luck and all the best, and please keep Roon running as long as possible…

Exactly, as a many years lifetime subscriber I worry that things will not stay the same for long. Already thinking about alternatives and sigh there aren’t many. Audirvana ???

:exclamation:I hope this is an exciting new chapter for Roon. I’m only slightly nervous, because I just bought the lifetime subscription after much consideration. I absolutely love Roon unequivocally, so I want to keep having the same experience, and I’m excited about any improvements that could be coming. :clinking_glasses:

Too late. Samsung and Harman now own them, they can do as they wish at any point

I would imagine that Roon certification now will go lickety-split with Harman brands! Laggards beware!

Can I add congratulations but specifically to @mike who has, through alpha testing in the past, been my main Roon team contact.

Best of luck, Mike.

I hope with Harman and Samsung they can negotiate with apple/spotify/amazon/youtube music about using their ecosystems.

maybe they’ll bring back the DMC 1000.

They wouldn’t be opposed to integrating.

Congratulations to the Roon Team! Happy to see you rewarded for your efforts and dedication.

Very concerned about how many 3rd-party integrators will continue to partner with Roon/Samsung. One of the first efforts to boost revenue more than likely will be to hike up licensing costs to 3rd parties, most of which will balk and choose to drop Roon altogether. I will not be surprised to see Bluesound patch Roon out of BluOS within a year.

Samsung/Harmon competitors like Anthem and Premium Audio Company will likely choose to drop their promised integration plans altogether (Anthem users have already been waiting since 2019).

End of an era. Time to go set up an LMS server.
