Roon app crashes on MacBook Air M1 after attempting full screen (ref#6KGXNL)

Describe the issue

Dear Roon team,

I am currently facing a weird issue with my Roon app on my Macbook Air (M1 - macOS 14.7.1 (23H222)): when launching Roon, the Roon Server launches properly, but the Roon app (the interface) appears for a second then crashes/disappears immediately.
It seems really just like a visual/graphic thing as I can control Roon without any issue from my phone with the Roon Remote app, and music is playing etc...
The interface on my computer just really won't launch.
It happened for the first time when trying to go Full Screen just after the window appeared and showing the Roon "loading logo".

I have rebooted several times my computer, uninstalled and re-installed Roon, but to no avail.
I have added a video recording of what I see when trying to launch Roon (Roon server is running).

Would you have a suggestion on what else I can try ?

Thank you!

Describe your network setup

I have tried on many different networks, such as:
Apple Airport Express
Apple Airport Extreme
Asus AX3000
etc....

Hey @henri.herve,

Thanks for writing in, and welcome to the community! Sorry to hear about your Roon GUI issue - let’s first refresh your Roon database to see if that may help:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

With that, if your issues still persist after the above, please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon logs to our File Uploader?

Thank you!

Hi @henri.herve,

Thank you for the report.

The team is eager to illuminate this case with more verbose OS-level logging, so we’re hoping you’re willing to assist us by performing the following steps:

  1. Reproduce the issue with Roon crashing
  2. Navigate to Applications → Utilities and open the Apple Console app.
  3. Please share any crash reports you see listed related to Roon, RAATServer, or RoonServer

You can use this uploader.

Hi guys,

Thank you very much for your quick responses!

So, I was in the middle of trying the steps as described by @benjamin, and right before Reinstalling Roon, I had a forced update to MacOs Sequoia.
After the update, I reinstalled Roon, and it worked fine! Restored the backup I had done right before and still no issue.
Not sure if it’s actually the update to Sequoia or the refresh of the Roon database which really helped.
Anyway it’s working now, so all good

@connor I had the time to check the crash reports on the Console app and there was none at all on Roon RAATServer or RoonServer when replicating the issue.
Sorry I can’t be of more help here.

You can close this ticket, as everything is running smoothly now.
Thanks again!
