· I get my internet smoothly through a normal WIFI Router. I run Roon on my single macMINI M4
Thanks for the screenshot and the details. A blank grey window right after an OS update is usually a problem with the app itself, so let’s start by reinstalling it. Your library and settings are stored separately from the app, so this should not touch them.
Please follow these steps:
Quit Roon. If it is frozen, please right-click the Roon icon in the Dock and choose Force Quit.
Please open Finder, go to Applications, and move Roon to the Trash.
Morning! Just to add to Kiat’s report - I updated my Mac Mini M4 to 15.8.2 last night and this morning, after the reboot, Roon presents a completely blank (white) window. Moving the cursor around the window causes the cursor to change from arrow to hand and back again so it’s running, just not displaying anything.
I completely uninstalled Roon from the Mac using AppCleaner and reinstalled the latest as you suggest but to no avail.
The Roon app on my phone works fine - when Roon is running on the Mac, the phone app can control the music being played on the Mac … but again, the Mac’s Roon window is completely blank.
Didn’t find anything Roon-related in the various logs in Console.log.
My Roon server is on an i7 Linux box. Mac and server are wired connections.
Let me know if there’s any logs or something you need.
Thanks for the details. Several Mac users are now seeing the same blank window after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, and we are looking into it. Logs from the Roon app on your Mac will help us see what it is doing while the window stays blank.
Please open Roon once so the blank window appears, wait about a minute, then quit it. After that, can you please use the directions found here to zip the Logs folder from the Roon folder on your Mac (in Finder, click Go, hold the Option key, choose Library, then open the Roon folder), and send it over to our File Uploader? Please also let us know the exact macOS version (Apple menu > About This Mac). Once the logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
Thanks Vadim. I uploaded the logs under “Turly O’Connor”.
I’m on a 16GB Mac Mini M4 running Sequoia 15.8.2 (24H219).
Best of luck - my money’s on OpenGL
We have an update on the blank window. This turns out to be a bug in macOS itself, not in Roon: on macOS 15.8.2, apps that draw their window with OpenGL, like Roon, don’t get a surface to draw on, so the window stays blank. Several other apps are affected in exactly the same way, and it has been reported to Apple. The 15.8.2 build you’re on is a pre-release (beta) version, and Apple’s second release candidate (24H225) doesn’t fix it yet.
Unfortunately there’s nothing we can change in Roon to work around it. Until Apple fixes it, your options are:
Keep using Roon from your iPhone, iPad, Android device or another computer. Your Roon Server keeps running normally, and on the Mac you can leave the Roon app open in the background.
Leave the macOS beta program (System Settings > General > Software Update > Beta updates: Off) so you’re moved to Apple’s final release once it’s available. Going back to the current public version (15.8.1) right away requires reinstalling macOS, so please make a backup first.
Some users are running Roon on macOS 27 without this problem, so upgrading is also an option. Please check first that any other audio software you rely on supports it.
We’ll keep an eye on Apple’s updates and post here once a macOS build fixes it.
Do you have 24H230? About This Mac → macOS 15.8.2 (click and it will display the build number, 24H230 in my case.) For me, 24H230 only became available yesterday, 19 October.
Other OpenGL apps like Krita work now as well.
