· I cannot make Roon help work as the wrong options come up and then freeze. I have a system which looks all fine but when I press play on any music, nothing happens. Everything was working this morning and nothing has been changed but now nothing works. I can load music but when I press play there is no music and there is no progress. And the help system is utterly rubbish as this option simply doesn’t come up. Really annoyed

· Very vanilla system though a Swisscom router and everything wired
I can make the system work on a Sonos system attached but the Meridian 218 freezes. I cannot believe how buggy Roon is given the amount of money I have spent. And the help system is non existent - atrocious.
I’m sorry for the frustration. I know how annoying it is when a system that was working perfectly in the morning suddenly refuses to play a single note, especially when the interface feels like it’s fighting you.
To help us pin down exactly where the communication is breaking down between Roon and your Meridian 218, I have enabled diagnostic mode for your account. This will allow your Roon Server to send a technical report directly to our team so we can see what’s happening behind the scenes.
In the meantime, could you please clarify a few things?
If possible, could you share a couple of screenshots? One of the “spinning logo” you’re seeing and another of the screen when playback is stuck (where it shows no progress). This helps us see exactly which part of the UI is hanging.
Is the Meridian 218 still appearing as a selectable Zone in Roon, or has it disappeared from the list entirely?
Does this happen when you first open the app, or only when you try to interact with the Meridian Zone?
Since your Sonos system is still working, the Core itself is likely healthy, but there may be a specific handshake issue with the Meridian endpoint or a network glitch at the router level.
Please keep your Roon Server powered on and connected to the internet so the logs can reach us. We’ll be standing by for your reply!
So having given up on Roon and the blank screen with the flashing logo on the app, and gone out, I come home and the system seems to be working fine. The intermittency of this problem is incredibly annoying a I cannot tell what isn’t working. Why the blank screen on the app? If it is updating or similar, why not tell me so that I know the system is actually doing something rather than just hanging. So I can’t currently provide a screenshot although it wouldn’t be particularly illuminating: it is just the window for the app and the logo in the middle. The 218 keeps dropping out of the system and is not findable without unplugging it and rebooting. And this has happened both on start up and then also mid-track when it just freezes and the app is unresponsive. I’ll try to take a screenshot when it happens again.
Thank you for your patience while we investigated your report.
Our team has been analyzing similar reports, and we’ve identified two distinct factors affecting your setup. While your library size is a factor for general stability, the “freeze” you’re experiencing is tied to a specific issue we are currently tracking.
1. RAAT Playback Initialization Issue (The immediate problem) We are investigating a known issue where Roon fails to re-initialize a session with certain endpoints (like your Meridian) after an update. This typically happens when the device has gone to sleep or switched outputs, causing the playback to hang and the UI to become unresponsive.
Tracking Thread: You can follow the progress and find a potential workaround involving a RAATServer restart here: RAAT playback failing to initialize.
2. Nucleus Memory Usage In our broader investigation of performance on Nucleus devices, we’ve noticed that memory consumption can spike significantly after startup. With a library of over 80k tracks, your Nucleus is operating near its physical RAM limits. While this isn’t the direct cause of the Meridian failing to play, it is likely the reason the Roon app feels frozen or shows the spinning logo when these network errors occur.
Our engineering team is focused on a fix for the RAAT initialization and high memory consumption bug. In the meantime, if you want to make the interface snappier and provide more “breathing room” for your large library, you might consider a RAM upgrade for your Nucleus in the future.
Would you like the specifications for the recommended RAM modules to have on hand for later?
Thank you Vadim - on the second point, you are seeing that I have a library of over 80,000 tracks but the overview on Roon says that I have 42,651 tracks. Where is the disconnect between these two figures?
Are you maybe looking at My Albums? What does it say on Home?
The numbers can differ if you have Settings > Show Hidden Tracks and Albums = No. In this case, My Albums counts every album just once, regardless of the versions. While Home counts every version separately.
Thanks for the screenshots! Do you see any additional content in the ‘Clean up Library’ pop-up?
We’ve had a few connectivity-related issues pop-up around our DNS provider have some scheduled maintenance over the last week or so, how are things functioning today?
This is still a known issue, unfortunately. No updates to share on this front yet.
Initially when checking the number of tracks, I did a library clean up but there was nothing to clean. I am away for hte next two weeks so cannot tell how stable the system is. I will update when I am next home.
