Roon app version discrepancy in MacOS Finder (ref#W0M7PI)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I am running Roon 2.57 on MacOS. When I look at the Roon app in the MacOS Finder, it reports version 1.0. This is causing notices from an update app I use. Is there a workaround?

Tell us about your home network

· I am using a Netgear Orbi 970 router with 2 satellites. I have Netgear switches of various types. No VPN. I don't believe any of this relates to my question.

Hey @Frederick_Ruegsegger ,

Thanks for letting us know. Can you please share a screenshot of the 3rd party app interface showing the outdated error? I would like to have this on hand for the team.

The name of the app is Updatest and here’s a screenshot. I can confirm that the MacOS finder also reports Roon version 1.0. Thanks for having a look at this.

Where please? I looked around and can’t find it

Hi - I use column view in Finder windows. When I select the Roon app in my Applications folder, here is what the Finder displays. You can see the version here.

When I right click on the app icon and slect ‘Get Info’ it displays the following:

Where the version should be, Roon displays copyright information. Perhaps there’s a clue here somewhere.

Thank you.

Hello @Frederick_Ruegsegger,

Thanks for the detailed screenshots — that’s very helpful.

What you’re seeing in macOS Finder is actually expected behavior and not an indication that Roon is outdated or incorrectly installed. Roon uses an internal versioning system for application updates, and the Finder metadata (CFBundleShortVersionString) is not updated with each Roon release. As a result, Finder and some third-party update utilities may continue to report the app version as 1.0, even though the application itself is fully up to date.

The authoritative place to check your installed Roon version is always:
Roon → About, inside the app.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a supported workaround to change how Finder reports the version, aside from excluding Roon from third-party update monitoring tools like Updatest.

We’ll pass this feedback along to the team, but rest assured — this does not affect functionality or updates in any way.

Thanks again for flagging this, and please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you Vadim! The functionality of the app is indeed fine and, from inside the app, you can indeed verify the versions. This was really about managing my updates from a third party app and the strange use that Roon makes of the Finder’s version field (accessed from get info) where, rather than reporting the version, it reports copyright information. I like the Roon app and am happy to live with this small inconvenience.

Hey @Frederick_Ruegsegger,

We’ve already heard back from the development team, and we should have an update ready to release soon that will reflect the proper version.

This should, in return, stop the auto-update notifications from your third-party app. :raising_hands:

We can’t speak on specific timelines, but it’s an easy fix and should be included in the next update or two. You can keep your eye out for specific update notes over in our software release section:

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention!
