Describe the issue

I upgraded to Mac OS Tahoe and Roon App won't start on my laptop anymore. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version from the site and same issue. The application won't start at all.

Describe your network setup

This is not a network issue, the app won't even start. Roon works fine from my older laptop with the previous MacOS and everything plays fine.

I’m just a fellow Roon user. Roon support don’t work weekends.

Have you tried;

Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, and make sure Roon and Roon Server are allowed.

If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

Same here : Macbook Pro M1 with MacOs Tahoe 26.0 Roon doesnt start.

Everything is ok from ipad M1 pro and Iphone (iPadOS 26 and iOS 26).

Maybe helpful: On a MacBook Pro “M4 Pro” and Tahoe 26.0 Roon crashes the second I start the app from the dock (macOS app indicator briefly appears, then disappears). However, when I then try it another time, it usually starts. Sometimes I need a few tries.

Roon is allowed in the local network setting.

Thank you @Mr.Flibble. I have checked all that. But now I had to start Roon 5 times before it kept alive.
Roon (maybe the Mono framework) has problems with Tahoe.

Hello Everyone

Thank you for the reports

Our R&D team is already working on the issue. Currently, the workaround is to launch the application multiple times.

@vadim Just to let you know: The Roon 2.55 Build 1559 update does not fix this problem.

Hi @Vladimir_Smirnov1 and @Arie_van_Boxel,

We’ve already identified a fix, and we’re in the process of getting it merged into our next release cycle, which should be soon!

We very much appreciate your ongoing patience here :raising_hands:

After upgrade to MacOS Tahoe V16 ROON crashes from time to time and does not want to restart

Same here Macbook PRO M1 with Mac OS 26.0.1.

Also Roon icon is not update correctly with the OS please fix.

Two weeks now Roon crashes on macOS computers. It is a shame, the problem isn’t fixed!
It is not a free application and I think we deserve a better support.

I fully agree. I have not seen any useful statement from Roon itself on this issue.

In my experience the issue also happens from time to time when switching from album to album. In particular when switching from a Qobuz album to an one hosted on one’s own server. It must have to do with the interaction between Roon and the Core audio component of MACos

FWIW, it does not happen on an Intel Mac. Roons seems to work fine on Tahou 26.0.1 on a MacBook Pro w. Intel CPU.

The underlying issue is that Roon frontend is built with Mono, a .NET framework. Essentially, it’s a quick and dirty solution, as one source code base is sufficient for Windows, macOS, and Linux. In the short term, this saves a developer on costs (but needing over 1 gigabyte for an application like this isn’t really a benefit for the user.).

However, the downside is that you become heavily dependent on the Mono project. Its last major release was in July 2019, with a final patch released in February 2024.

Probably, this is the reason why it’s taking so long to fix the Roon crashing issue for macOS Tahoe: it is a Mono issue.

Hello All,

We have a just released a bugfix for this issue in our Early Access branch:

If you are impacted and would be willing to give Early Access a try, we would be eager to know if it helps resolve the issue on your end. Otherwise, the fix should roll out to production/regular Roon after testing is completed. More information regarding Early Access can be found here:

Thanks!

Hello @noris. Build 1566 fixed the startup crash for me under macOS Tahoe 26.0.1.
Thanks.
