Hi @Stephen_Meuris,

Thank you for your post.

If you’ve reinstalled simply by deleting the Roon app and re-downloading from our accounts page, on the Macbook, then RoonServer will have remained online as a separate background task.

We want to determine whether RoonServer itself has frozen or is otherwise limited from accessing the network and system audio driver. Diagnostic logs that we’ve requested from your RoonServer can confirm that this database encounters critical errors associated with your Zone profile.

Looking deeper, RoonServer logs errors when attempting to access or manipulate the system folder hosting RAATServer. There’s very little doubt this explains the symptoms on your Audio Settings page.

Let’s start by fully refreshing the database instead of simply reinstalling Roon’s graphical component.

If you haven’t already, try below. If you have, forgive the redundancy and please let us know, we’ll proceed from there.

  • Check if you have a reliable Backup. If not, consider making one.
  • Exit out of RoonServer
  • Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Additionally, verify that RoonServer has full system permissions in the MacOS firewall. This will be in your System Settings. It’s unlikely to be the cause, but worth checking.

This doesn’t make any sense to me. Is RoonServer the same as the Roon App? I don’t understand the directions to navigate to the Database location?

Hello @Stephen_Meuris ,

The Roon App is the graphical aspect of Roon, while the Roon Server app is the brain that hosts the database. It sounds like you reinstalled the graphical aspect, but you did not reinstall the server component.

As per the guide, on Mac the Roon + RoonSever database is hosted under the ~Library folder path. Example view:

I would perform the procedure that Connor described with the RoonServer folder from this view:

Do let us know if this explanation helps or if you need further clarification, thanks!

When I open the Database, I don’t see “RoonServer” In see folders called Cache, Core, Cx, Orbit and Registry…

I was able to find the Roon Server and rename it RoonServer_old. I then downloaded the Roonserver App. However when I try to open it is just stuck trying to initialize My MacBook Air as the Server. At this point I have spent many hours on this and am ready to give up on Roon.

Hi @Stephen_Meuris,

We understand and empathize with your frustration, but we can most likely resolve this issue by simply clarifying where you’ve installed RoonServer and with which permissions on this machine.

Was this folder contained in the location expected (Library folder) per the instructions, or had RoonServer installed elsewhere?

Have you verified this step, for due diligence?
