I have an iPhone and Subaru Forester 2018 (no CarPlay). Upon starting my car, my phone automatically connects via Bluetooth and begins playing from the last app with which media was being played; in this case Roon ARC. Not every time, but 95% of the time when it auto starts ARC it plays an extremely loud white noise/static even though the track is being displayed as progressing, the track is not audible at all.
The remedy is to pause and play. Yet this defeats the ease of getting in the car and driving and media resuming on its own and 99% of the time I am not turning down the volume upon exiting the car so I get blasted with the static upon starting up.
Has anyone else experienced this? I presume it’s a combo of car model and phone more so arc?
Thanks for writing in, and I’m sorry to hear you’re running into this auto-playing issue! Truth be told I’ve personally experienced this myself albeit through the mobile Tidal app.
I’m curious, does this issue happen with other audio players outside of Roon?
With that, if you first pause any music playing from the device via BT, then manually shut off the car head unit. Does the issue happen the next time you turn the car on?
Do you by chance have another mobile device you could test this on as well?
No other apps produce the issue although I only use Roon Remote when at my house and Apple Music or ARC for car. I tend to ensure I have Roon remote closed before starting my car as to not start playback in my household devices. Then I select ARC or Apple Music and then turn on my car and let it auto start the media playback.
Once I’m around town and I restart my car I have not closed nor opened other music apps (just used my phone and have ARC paused in the background).
I will try pausing from my head unit before leaving the car and report back, although the likelihood of me remembering to do that every time is slim. I can also try with Qobuz native app to determine if it happens with it as well.
