Hello,
In the last couple of years I ahve been trying to get Roon ARC to work on my Iphone (11 & 15), worked through a varity of operating systems, reinstalls ,etc, etc. but nothing seems to work.
The only way I can get Roon ARC to work, is playing downloaded content in airplane mode. That’s grat when I’m on an airplane but in connection with carplay in my BMW, it’s not stable. It’s not even stable when I use it a standalone, listening to my bluetooth airpods.
Last week my BMW get a complete reprogramming but not resolution there…
Any advise on getting this solves would be appreciated.
I find it unacceptable that ARC after so many years does not work reasonably well. On an iPhone 14 Pro Max it is chaos. Within a few minutes the phone is absurdly hot and the battery is plummeting. ARC crashes frequently and within a few minutes it closes abruptly. The solution is to uninstall and reinstall the application, but with that I waste hours waiting for it to synchronize with the server the first time. I have been doing a new installation every week but it is not possible to keep it that way.
The most ironic thing is that on an iPad Air 4, with inferior hardware and using an iPhone version of the application, ARC works well.
Today I performed a final test, which clearly showed me that Roon’s instability, with my server and extensive library, is due to the Apple system. Both my iPad (Air 4) and iPhone (14 Pro Max) overheat like I’ve never seen on an Apple system and shut down abruptly in less than a second.
The only way I achieved some stability, which only lasts a day, is a clean install of ARC on the iPhone (it takes about 30 minutes for the first synchronization). I have to keep the brightness at minimum, the screen always on, and even then it overheats terribly and the battery drains like never before, so much so that my battery is already damaged from insisting so much.
Today I borrowed a Motorola Edge, with much inferior hardware to my iPhone, and ARC worked like magic: the device didn’t overheat, the battery didn’t drain, it didn’t freeze, and it didn’t shut down abruptly.
In other words, the Roon team didn’t develop ARC for iOS with the same efficiency as for Android.
I already tested it with 2 other iPhone 13s and had the same problem.
You should open a support ticket: click → Support and then Get Help. (The name you tagged is just a regular user, not official support).
There were reports of battery drain and overheating on iOS before, several fixes were made, and several people reported success or at least much improvement.
If it’s so bad for you, something is different and incorrect, so Support needs to investigate.
