Describe the issue

Roon Arc crashing since my phone installed the latest update 14th January. Although I’ve always had the occasional crash since installing Arc, this was rare enough to not be of major concern. Now, it’s effectively unusable. It starts glitching as if there is a sample rate issue, then tells me the track is corrupt and then just crashes. Very occasionally I’ll get one song out of it and then the crashing starts again. I’ve tried rebooting the app several times and I also tried altering between original quality and CD quality within the app. Phone is a Samsung Galaxy S20FE running Android 12.

Describe your network setup

Home network is a Virgin router, TP-link range extender but this issue happened with Arc when I was on cellular away from home

Hi @Gary_Wright,

Thank you for the report. The team will pull diagnostics for your ARC instance and promptly escalate to development. We’ve identified the relevant crashes in logs.

Are you using the APK download or the Play Store download for ARC? Whichever track you initially used to install the app, try reinstalling with the other as a workaround.

Hi Connor,

Many thanks for the reply - I appreciate it.

I installed originally from the play store. Since raising the support request, I actually have a (more or less!) working system again. What I did:-

Uninstalled the Arc app.
Reinstalled (again, I used the Play store)
Rebooted the phone.

I have a legacy driver in my phone for Poweramp - I turn this off via the ‘force stop’ within the Android app menu because it forces Roon Arc to go 48k no matter what. I have to keep this driver in the phone as I also use it to listen to audio books via audible but life would be easier (Roon-wise) without it.

My theory? I did not manually update Roon Arc to the latest version that gives Listen Later. This feature just appeared so Arc must have auto updated. That’s when the trouble started. Removing Arc and starting again has, so far, fixed it. It’s still kicked me out a few times but nothing dreadful compared to how it was a couple of days ago - which was effectively unusable.

Is it the case that, with new versions, I’m best off removing the old one first then loading the new or was I just unlucky this time?

Hey @Gary_Wright,

Glad to hear things have improved for you!

We belive you were just unlucky this time around - usually auto-updating is successful and pain-free. :slightly_smiling_face:
