Roon Arc Freezes & Crashes on iPhone 14 Pro Max iOS 17.5.1 (ref#SV07G8)

Bump.

Updated to latest today.

No change. Same symptom. Freeze, crash, etc.

Screen is frozen, and yet music continues to play.

Disconnect from Roon Server hangs.

Disconnect from Roon Server crashes.

Eventually disconnect works.

And reconnects.

And syncing with Roon Server for the first time…

Any update please?

Any updates?

Hi @George_Shin ,

We are still looking into this and plan to discuss further with the team soon, but I was looking over the thread and it would be good to confirm if a fresh database also exhibits the issue, as @benjamin mentioned earlier:

If you use these instructions, then it would set the primary Roon Server aside in that RoonServer_old folder. When you are done testing, all you would need to do is reverse the process (e.g. rename new RoonServer folder you created for testing to RoonServer_test, and then RoonServer_old back to RoonServer) and start RoonServer again and you’ll restore your previous database.

Same problem here, iPhone 14 Pro Max and on the iPad, about 2 weeks ago the Arc started to freeze or abruptly close after a few seconds of playback.

I find this option very evasive, wouldn’t it be possible to simply return to the last version of Arc where this problem didn’t occur? It’s impossible to use, the screen freezes every time.

Play me for proofs.

I will echo this topic. Since I move to the iOS world, Roon Arc happens the same symptom as you mentioned.

My device:
iPhone 15 Pro Max
Memory: 512G
iOS: 17.6
Number of tracks at Roon D/B: 1,585,261

Error Mode:
A. Crush with/without browsing Arc APP after 20 seconds, frequency: 7/10 (7 times happened in 10 times cycle)
B. Hang Up/Freeze, frequency: 4/10

Hope Roon team could provide more info.

I also have had the same problem iPhone 15 pro and os/apps all up to date.

Unable to disconnect/cannot unlink Roon Server from ARC. ARC continues to crash.

Watch me

Is there anything that Roon team wants me to do before i uninstall and reinstall ARC?

Also, i believe i MAY HAVE the receipe for 100% repro.

Roon arc continues to be miserable here, I can’t play more than 1 minute of music without it freezing or closing abruptly, 2 versions ago this had never happened. It’s something you’ll have to weigh very carefully whether or not you’ll renew my annual list that expires at the end of August.

Yeah, this is just not a priority for Roon, like everything else, Roon needs to pick and choose their battle that brings the most bang for their buck.

Shame, because this is SO EASY to reproduce, at least for my situation.

Say you start from a baseline, which is to (re)install Roon Arc.

From there, if ALL YOU ARE DOING is playback, control Roon from Arc, and nothing else, as in nada from other Roon clients, then Arc on my case on my iphone plays without much hiccup, period. Good right?

But soon as you mess with Roon server from other Roon client instances such as Roon app or other clients from different PC’s, whatever, the messing with from different Roon clients (such as play back, changing metadata, etc.) besides from the Arc, WILL CAUSE THE ARC to freeze, crash, hang, panic, all those nasty things. Just seems like Arc on iphone (because my Arc app on Android as i noted in my original post has no issue like this, weird right?) gets messed up and cannot deal with changes at the Roon server if weren’t done from Arc, or changed out of band by other Roon clients. This is 100% reproducible. I don’t need to use fresh Roon server, db, whatever.

Now, you can restart by reinstall, and guess what, all this nasty repeats, AS LONG AS YOU ONLY CONTROL YOUR ROON SERVER FROM THE ARC. How’s that for user experience, right?

Dear George, thank you so much to speak out simply and clearly what I have met and felt about the crush Roon Arc at iPhone. YES, IT IS WHAT IT HAPPENS about Roon Arc.

Still crashing for me… I would love it if it would actually work reliably.

Hi All,

We realize some time has passed since sharing any updates. Our team is still investigating things, and overall Arc functionality around larger library sizes.

There aren’t any additional details needed at this time, but we wanted to make sure to keep you in the loop as things progress.

If the thread closes before we share any updates, please know we will re-open the thread to share any new information or if a solution has been pushed to an upcoming release. Thanks for the long-standing patience in the meantime! :raised_hands:
