Roon Arc has trouble connecting to my car through Android Auto

I connect Roon Arc to my 23 Acura TLX using Android Auto. It has started having trouble connecting. I see the spinning “trying to connect” graphic on the car screen. Other Android Auto apps work fine. I’m using a Samsung S23 phone. Reinstalling Roon Arc doesn’t fix the problem. Updating Android Auto doesn’t fix the problem. Restarting the phone does. Then it works fine - until I leave the car and go to use it again. Anyone else with this problem? Constantly restarting the phone is a pain. Is there a solution?

Hi @Valdis_Semeiks,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this problem. I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.

However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

Daniel,
Thank you for your incredibly fast reply. I just tried Roon Arc in the car again. Time 9:15 am EST. After a month of not working right, this time it loaded and played. Repeatedly. But it’s still a little wonky. Music played with the “play” button displayed, not the “pause” button. So you couldn’t stop the music via the touch screen. I think I should try uninstalling the app and reinstalling it again (a pain because you lose all your downloaded music). If you think enabling your diagnostics first is what to do, we should do that. I can also tell you that my wife uses Roon Arc in the same car with same the same kind of phone and hers works normally.

Hey @Valdis_Semeiks,

Thanks for the follow up! I’m glad to hear Arc was more or less functioning better for you!

When it’s in this state, are you using the phones lock screen controls, or do you have Arc open?

One workaround here I’ve found helpful is to first add all your downloaded music into a playlist before removing and uninstalling Arc. After reinstalling, you can simply re-download the playlist. :raised_hands:

Thank you for the follow up, Benjamin. My Roon Arc is working correctly through Android Auto again. Who knows what the problem was. It’s a complicated setup. I use Roon and Roon Arc a lot. I’m a music lover and am amazed that you folks were able develop Roon Arc and provide the remote access it gives me to my music collection. It’s true marvel. I’m not surprised it has an occasional hiccup. Thanks to you and everyone at Roon for what you do.

That’s great! We’re glad ARC is working for you again.
