Roon ARC in Apple CarPlay: some downloaded albums are greyed out

Hello guys, I don’t share info about my system as I don’t think the issue is system related.

First and foremost: I really like roon arc, which I use on my frequent travels and while not perfect it’s more than good for me. Unfortunately since some weeks I am experiencing a strange behavior in Apple CarPlay as some of my downloaded albums are greyed out. If I select them from the phone I can play them but in the Apple CarPlay interface are not selectable.

Any ideas?

Do you have an example of an album that greys out and fails to play in the CarPlay interface but still loads and queues like normal in the phone itself?

We’ll use the name of the album to pinpoint the event in logs.

Pure Heroine by Lorde is working on the phone but greyed out on Apple CarPlay.

I tried to remove the download and restarted and that fix the album.

When I did download the song the first time I started at original quality and after a while o changed to cd quality. I have been later prompted to decide whether I would change the downloaded songs also to cd quality, which I did. I wonder if this may have something to do with the indexing…

In ARC diagnostics, we can see the car head unit reports a max sample rate of 48khz to the phone. If you look at the sample rate of the greyed-out tracks in the CarPlay display, do they all have sample rates above 48khz?

I found something strange: while on the downloads all the albums appear to be 44 or 48 getting inside I found some (but not all the greyed out) to be 48 and MQA 96.

Anyway, it’s a problem I can easily solve with a clean download at CD quality. There must be something in the transition that did not work as expected.

Does this issue only impact downloaded content? If you try to play regular content that is above 48kHz, does that display as expected?

Ciao @noris, it works. The problem does not seem to be the resolution.
Please note also the downloaded version works if i start the playback from the phone.

Looking at all the version I found an interesting behavior:

• Looking at the storage location in Roon I had 2 path, which we will call path1 and path2.
• having path 1 was disabled, since long long time ago.
• So even though when I downloaded the songs on my phone this path was already disabled some of the albums greyed out showed 2 version downloaded: 1 version from path1 and 1 version from path2. (you can check the screenshot:)

* Removing the path1 version of the album the problem is solved.
