Roon ARC on iPhone 15 not working after build 1353

Did you have to sync after build 1353?

I’m always using early access builds, but in any case it is always short and painless for me, so I wouldn’t remember if there was anything

Yes, I don’t even remember having done this when I first installed Roon

Hi @Norman_Spector, @Placebophile

Thank you for your patience in awaiting a staff response - we have been investigating these reports in the meantime, but we wanted to perform some due diligence to guide our investigation first.

  1. If you are encountering a blank screen within ARC after it requests to log in, then you are very likely encountering a known issue present in the production build for which we are actively developing a fix. This is tracked here.

  2. If you are encountering: a) longer-than-expected sync times b) issues with disappearing downloads, or c) failures to reach your RoonServer while on WiFi after an attempted sync, then we will need a little more information. Please respond to the following at your convenience:

a) How many Artists do you have with over 100 tracks? Are these tracks stored in the same folder somewhere?
b) Do you have any Artists with over 100 Albums? If local albums, are these albums stored in the same folder?
c) Do you have any custom Tags that you have added universally across your tracks/albums/artists, or to most of them?

Thank you!

Thanks for your reply Conor

I encountered the white screen on my iPhone a couple of times but mostly encountered a failure to connect or a failed sync after re-installing the app

I am now syncing to my iPad on the first try – it’s been going for about 26 hours on wi-fi

I have 700,000 tracks in all

Probably hundreds of artists with over 100 tracks

I doubt that I have very many artists with over 100 albums – except for the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan

All my tracks are in individual albums in folders by the album name with some being multiple disks

I haven’t done any custom tags

Should I let the sync continue to run on my iPad? I stopped it the first time on my iPhone after 24 hours which is when I ran into all the problems

Is it OK if I play music via roon on my system while the sync is on-going?

Let me know if you need additional information

UPDATE; Arc is still syncing on my iPad – 40 hours after it began

Norman

#2 applies to me
I have many artists with more than 100 tracks but I’m not sure how to determine how many.
I have 3 artists with more than 100 albums.
All my albums are in a unique folder.
Above this is a unique folder for each artist (and one for compilation albums)
Above that I have separate folders for Jazz, Classical, Reggae, World, and one for everything else.
Then a single folder named Roon then Root.

I have 9 custom Tags. The total number of tagged items is about 500 (mostly albums) in a library of 105,000 tracks.

Edit to add: I just started ARC for the first time since posting here earlier.
Logged in no problem and synched in about 10 seconds.
I currently only have one album downloaded in ARC.

Thank you both for the descriptive responses @Norman_Spector and @Placebophile.

It’s no problem to play music via Roon during the sync - I recommend trying to allow the sync to complete.

We’re also testing some new download features over in Early Access (there was an EA ARC release yesterday. It might be worth switching over since you’ve lost a large volume of downloaded content.

In the meantime, we’re investigating these reports and will activate diagnostics for RoonServer. We should know more soon. Thank you for your patience.

Np.
Thanks for looking into this.

Not sure if it matters but for clarity: Only one of the folders in my hierarchy is set as a Roon Storage Location.

Thanks Conor:

Will let it run and advise you of any material changes

Hi again Conor

Arc has now been syncing for 75 hours on my iPad

Has anyone checked my logs?

I’m assuming that it continues to sync when the iPad screen goes dark as I see it syncing when I go back to check – is this correct?

Another question: Can I add music to my library [on a QNAP] and import into Roon while the sync is on-going?

Norman

Hi Connor,

The sync on my iPad has not been running 4 days

Have you checked my logs?

Hi Conor

Roon ARC has now been syncing on my iPad for 5 days

Have you checked my logs?

Hi @Norman_Spector,

Have you seen that Roon are off till after the holidays.

I suggest syncing has stalled and if this were me … I’d reboot the Roon Server and restart ARC.

I don’t foresee any issues adding to your library whilst Roon ARC is syncing.

Thanks

Re-booting has been tried

@connor advised me to let it continue running

Scanning the library after adding music no problem?

As you suggested, I’ve let ARC continue syncing on my iPad, and it’s now been going on for 7 full days and I hope it’s working but I guess we will only know for sure if/when it completes and, if not, by checking the logs

Hi @connor

As you suggested, I’ve let Arc continue to sync to my Nucleus + on my IPad and it’s now been running for 168 hours. Have you checked my logs? And is this still your advice? cc @noris

ARC has now been syncing to my core on my iPad for 8 full days and I’m going to have to rep-boot the core as my system has slowed down intolerably listening to music. Very disappointed that no one has checked my logs and in the lack of support dealing with this issue cc @noris

Rebooted my nucleus + successfully. Checked my iPad and Arc was still syncing to my core for the first time. Re-booted my iPad and got the white screen. Deleted the app and reinstalled it and was asked to sync ARC to my core for the first time, which it started to do. After 12 days since this began on my iPhone, and 8 days of not using my iPad to let the sync continue, and no one having checked my logs, have given up in profound disappointment cc @noris @danny

When synching ARC the first time, I always have the problem of a 'hanging‘ ARC app (had it on all my iPhones so far).

Quitting the app and re-opening ARC solved this on my side.

It’s now been two weeks since I’ve been unable to sync ARC first on my iPhone15 then on my iPad Pro after Build 1353 either via wi-fi or 5G even though the Nucleus + core is shown as being ready and ARC had previously been working fine

This is all detailed in the link below and after one response by support a week ago no one has yet checked my logs and gotten back to me with a solution cc @noris @connor
