Roon ARC on iPhone 15 not working after build 1353

Hi @connor: Just installed 32 GB of RAM in my nucleus plus and I’m ready to go with ARC whenever you are

Hi @connor: upgraded nucleus plus to 32 GB RAM + installed the latest updates and I attempted to sync after about 30 hours of Roon scanning folders and the sync failed after about 15 minutes with the red dot message

Same here … uninstalled ARC on iPhone 15 Pro Max 100x, rebooted phone and Roon Server (Win 11) – all latest version. ARC has worked on and off in the past, now stuck at “Searching for Roon Server” → uninstall iOS ARC app → reinstall ARC app → Server found → Synching with Roon Server for the first time → Something went wrong with synching … → quit app (swipe up, or reboot phone) → “No Roon Server found” (immediate message). REPEAT (… uninstall, etc.)

Roon on the same phone - works great.

ARC on the same Wifi, Windows firewall turned off, private network, server IP x.x.x.110, phone IP x.x.x.152 - same subnet.

Roon app / settings (on my Mac, same network): Your Roon server was automatically configured and has been confirmed to be securely accessible by Roon ARC." - Port 55000 (default), nothing special.

Ever since ARC came out, this has been a nightmare. Regular Roon - beautiful. Plex - All OK.

@mzbe Do you have an extremely large library like @Norman_Spector ?

@connor has determined after extensive trouble shooting that the size of my library is not the issue

Hi @connor; installed the new roon build and roon arc but sync failed again after about 25 minutes [something went wrong, red message] and got a new message : no roon servers found

I have about 730k tracks.
Not sure if that is, or should be, an issue.

Looking at network traffic on my router, after reinstalling ARC on the phone, there is not a significant amount of data going back and forth to the server. The failure also occurs after 1-2 minutes.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max has 1TB of memory (500GB free). For what it’s worth, the same behavior/issue exists on my iPad M1 Pro 1TB.

Server Core i7 with 32GB RAM, 400 GB free disk space.

Both iPhone and iPad used to work, with many hickups, with ARC before. The size of my library has not changed since.

I recalled that Norman’s huge library had once been suspected as a contributor, but this may have been ruled out since, like Norman replied

Then again, yours is very large, too

same library size but, yes, ruled out, mine too used to work [on iPhone 13] and now also doesn’t work on iPad as well as 15 though I never used it on iPad

It looks like ARC doesn’t even try in earnest - there is a very brief spike in network traffic (phone reading from Core) observed via my wireless router / device details.
CPU load on the core remains low. After a few seconds, ARC gives up completely (no network traffic worth speaking of), only to error out (and require uninstall/reinstall) not much later.

My iPad M1 has 16GB RAM (since it’s the 1TB model), twice that of my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Unlikely we are hitting any storage or RAM issues that might relate to library size?

Again - normal Roon (not ARC) is working reliably on the same devices … All is within my home network, I even disabled cellular to ensure WiFi is used by ARC throughout the ordeal.

addendum: Tried Roon ARC on Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Same problem as on iPhone and iPad.

The chatter seems to be (as per log file)
05/01 16:05:38 Info: [mobile] GOT HTTP API /hello
05/01 16:05:38 Trace: [mobile] Got Hello Request
05/01 16:05:38 Trace: [mobile] Got Hello Request body={“coreId”:“xxxxx”}
05/01 16:05:41 Info: [stats] 2120840mb Virtual, 10328mb Physical, 9419mb Managed, 7095 Handles, 78 Threads

Update: I got ARC on the iPhone to connect and work correctly with my Roon core. There were no configuration changes, and I didn’t even reinstall after the last failed attempt. Interestingly, I was closer to a slower access point - contrary to the intuition to maximize bandwidth to help the app succeed. I kept tapping on the screen every 10-15 seconds to prevent any power management slowdowns; I’m not sure if that helped or was just superstition.
On my home wifi, the size of my library causes no problems at all with ARC - just mentioning it for future reference, at this point I don’t think it should be investigated if future connection/sync issues arise.

Interesting; how long did it take for the phone to sync?

Less than 10 minutes to sync. The resulting iPhone storage used by ARC, after some listening and browsing activity, is 1.88GB. The size of the corresponding RoonServer directory (on the PC) is 42.6GB.

thanks for this…

Hi @connor: It’s now been about 5 months since I’ve been without ARC and more than a month since we completed the troubleshooting. Any estimate of when you’ll be releasing the fix?

Hi Connor: I was just able to sync to ARC after installing the latest update. Unlike previous attempts, I tried something that mzbe who has a large library said had helped him – I kept tapping the screen to prevent it from going dark and after about an hour doing this it synced. Not sure if this was the reason it worked – as mzbe wasn’t sure – or just superstition. In any case, I’m now downloading albums to my phone [all previous downloads have disappeared] and have listened to one . Thanks for all your assistance over the past 5 months. It’s been at times frustrating but a good learning experience and might be a good case study for Roon improving technical support cc @danny @noris @mike
