What information need I provide in order to get some kind of response.?

Using Roon ARC on iPhone 15 with CarPlay on a tethered connection to Alpine head end. “Poor Connection”. Verizon. No music. No albums. Nothing.

I am using a dedicated Mac Mini server behind an Asus wireless router RT-AC68U and a Verizon 5G gateway.

What’s happening?

I'm having trouble with Roon ARC

Whilst in my car I get the dreaded "Poor Connection"
message from Roon ARC. No music. No albums listed. At home, Roon ARC works fine with WiFi. The problem is using remote data. Firewall issue???

iPhone 15 ver. 17.3.1 + Carplay, tethered to a
Alpine LX-W650. At home I am using a dedicated
MacMini as a Roon server. My wireless router is a
Asus RT-AC68U. My internet connectivity is through
a Verizon 5G gateway. Using Verizon wireless through my iPhone.

Hi @David_Zweig,
Thanks for your patience while we worked through the queue. Can you use ARC normally when it isn’t connected to CarPlay?

i can use ARC on my home wireless network. in the car, however, i get lists of playlists, but no music, no artwork. After a while it times out due to “Poor connection “. iPhone is at 5 bars so there’s an excellent connection

Hi @David_Zweig,

We’re sorry to hear that you’ve lost ARC playback on the go. If there’s an extended period of poor connectivity due to topography or limits in cellular coverage, ARC will eventually lose sight of the RoonServer machine and display the messages you’ve mentioned.

However, if this is happening immediately after you leave the WiFi connection despite the Settings → ARC page reading that ARC is Ready for on-the-go use, the issue is likely with the RoonServer machine’s upstream connection to the internet.

If you don’t have any third-party firewalls installed on your Mac Mini, the inbuilt Mac firewall won’t block RoonServer from connecting to ARC.

Is your Mac Mini connected via ethernet to the Asus router? I’d try an ethernet connection if so and see if the connection improves.

Is the router component of the Verizon gateway still active, or have you Bridged it? A full picture of the network topology will be most efficient for troubleshooting here.

Additionally, please provide an approximate timestamp for when you last experienced this connectivity problem - the team will try to pinpoint the event diagnostically in our servers.

Thank you!
