Roon ARC showing 'Not Ready' despite UPnP enabled and firewall adjustments (ref#V4YFBT)

Network Setup

· My only router was provided by my ISP

ARC Status

· ARC is *Not Ready*

Roon Error Code

· None of these are listed. It simply says "TIMEDOUT" or similar.

System or third-party *firewalls *or *antivirus software* can sometimes block RoonServer from reaching ARC.

·
Try adding RoonServer and its associated processes to the whitelist of any firewalls or antivirus software you have installed, including the Windows system firewall, if applicable.
[You can learn more about firewall exceptions with Roon here.](https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/firewall)

Has the status in Roon -> Settings -> ARC changed after adding exceptions in your firewalls and antivirus software for Roon?
ARC is still *Not Ready*

Don't give up yet.

· I'm stuck. I'd like to create a post to ask Roon Community for help.

Describe the issue

I continue to see "Not Ready" in settings for Roon ARC. I can access my router just fine. I can see that UPnP and UPnP Nat-t are both enabled. I am running Norton 360, but it looks like the firewall allows Roon. I have tried shutting off firewall on my Calix Gigaspire GS4227E and several other things. I freely confess I don't know what I'm doing here so I have attempted to always revert to default status after each attempt. What else do you need to know? Please be specific. I really understand very little of this.

Describe your network setup

ISP: Mahaska.org or MCG. What is my ISP says Google LLC.
Devices: Router is Calix GigaSpire GS4227E, Computer is Dell PC with a 13th Gen i9-13900 at 2GHz running Windows 11 Home version 23H2. 64 bit . Cell phone is Galaxy S22 Ultra model SM-s908U running android version 14.
Roon server is the desktop PC listed. It is hardwire connected to the router via Ethernet cable. Current connection speed is 600 mbps download and 800 mbps upload.
ARC is running on phone and PC? Not sure anymore.

Here is the diagnostic:

Hey @Charles_Clements,

Thanks for taking the time to write in and share your report!

Based on the diagnostic error you’ve shared above (thank you for that!) it indicates that Roon isnt’t able to configure ARC via UPnP properly. Can you try to set up a manual port forward rule in the router (same one as you have configured in Roon Settings → ARC) and check to see if that works?

Here’s more info on setting up a manual port forwarding rule:

Let me know if this helps!

Hi Benjamin,
No, this doesn’t help me at all. I have tried several times to create a manual port forwarding rule. The problem is I don’t have any idea what information goes where in the form that my router presents. Here is the form I see:

Please tell me what I need to put in each space and I will give it a try.
The first space, Device, is a pull down menu. I assume the roon server is what I want there?

Thank you.

Charlie

Hi @Charles_Clements,
It may be easier for you to use Tailscale instead of port forwarding. Here are the instructions for a Windows RoonServer. The good part in using Tailscale is that it doesn’t require any configuration of the router. If you would still prefer to use port forwarding instead please let us know and we will help you with that.
