Do you like plexamp? I have a Plex lifetime license and have been considering using plexamp instead of Roon. From what I’ve read, it can be used the same was as ARC. It’s got a lot of cool features that come from its neural network. Only questions however, no real experience. Just wonder if it’s worth pursuing instead of ARC.
I’ve not taken the plunge with ARC for the exact reasons everyone has posted here. I’m not in the mood to deal with an app that locks up or especially one that would mess my core up. What’s concerning is that this thread is over 5 days old and has zero posts from Roon Support. I get that it’s tough keeping up with customer requests, but I can speak from experience that the more mature a product, the less customer escalations/support requests. It’s like a self-fulling prophecy. Build a product that is buggy, doesn’t have good flow, is cryptic to understand, etc. and you’re going to be inundated by customer requests.
You are absolutely correct, when you are out and about you are bound to Roon ARC. So you will be working with a few options:
Straight from the phone/tablet - not much fun, soundwise…
Attach your phone/tablet to the Poly through Bluetooth - Likely you will find this usable, while the Bluetooth connection loses out on quite a few audible advantages the Mojo adds…
When on a known network, you can use Airplay - First of all, your phone/tablet and the Poly needs to be on the same network, then tou can enjoy a pretty good sound quality, but i’ve never seen a stable non-Apple Airplay solution.(hardly even the Apple one…)
Tether your phone/tablet to the Mojo using a suitable USB-adapter, and then on to your sound device. - Lossless sound, good quality but you’ll be somewhat less mobile with this solution, it that matters.
There are a few feature suggestions that wishes for Roon ARC to be able to find and connect to RAAT/Roon endpoints on other networks, which would be ideal. In other words, introduce Audio Zones in ARC.
When at a friends house, when joined to their network, you can play from your Core to their Bluesound speaker etc…
I love it, so do others it seems, it has 4.7/5 on the play store.
I tend to use it with Bluetooth only, out walking, yard work, in the car, all ok scenarios to use the convenience of BT IMO. Hi Res lossless would make no difference in those scenarios IMO.
As long as you use decent BT devices, for longer use I use the iFi Go Blu and my FIIO FH7 IEMs and the SQ is excellent, perfectly acceptable for longer use say for example a couple of weeks away on holiday, or back packing as I do.
It’s rock solid for me, allows you to cache xx songs ahead which is ideal for train journeys, very quick to download at home on WiFi from the server.
The app is superb and the homepage highly customisable. If you have a Plex pass I would install a server on a laptop to try it.
Also, you can connect your tidal account if you have one and stream.
To balance things out, at home it’s roon all the way, for the ease of use on my home setup and desktop headphone use. And I love roon…
I’ve had a few issues with ARC, but 1 thing is I’ve never had ARC interfere with the core, I listen to the core every morning for hours.
ARC does seem to be running every day I drive too, but I don’t see all my albums thru CarPlay as what I have on my iPhones ARC program. I use ARC in my cars thru a wireless CarPlay receiver which also works for all my other iPhone apps on CarPlay.
Still need some work done on ARC but has been more reliable lately with few gotchas
I have the same issue with ARC, running on Andriod. It regularly stops working and puts the core into a non-responsive state, the ROON App still detects the core but does not respond to commands.
The core has to be re-started to get it working again. This makes ARC unusable.
When ARC works, it works great. ARC has never affected the core even when arc had problems in the past. My core is on a dedicated m1 Mac mini with multiple 4TB nvme devices.
My issues with arc are:
Radio play repeats the same songs as the prior radio play for the same artist
AND
Not all my albums show up for the artist. This is using CarPlay whereas if I bring up arc on my iPhone, that shows all albums.
If you are having connectivity issues with arc, are you port forwarding the port you assign to arc?
