Description of Issue

Good evening.

I have a strange issue with Roon ARC (Android).

When I’m on a cellular connection and Cellular is set to Balanced or Bandwidth Optimized, Roon ARC stops (spinning circle) at the end of every track until it eventually results in a “poor connection” error, and I must manually skip to play the next track.

This only happens with music from Tidal or Qobuz and only If Cellular is set to Balanced ou Bandwidth Optimized. If set to CD Quality or Original Format, everything works as expected and ARC plays the next song automatically, so I don’t think it’s due to “poor connection”.

With local FLAC files (streamed or downloaded), ARC advances to the next track normally, whether Cellular is set to CD Quality, Balanced or Bandwidth Optimized, so I don’t this it’s Core related (NUC11i7 with 16gb RAM) or, again, “poor connection” issues.

This makes me think that it has something to do with “Lossy” formats reproduction from Tidal or Qobuz streams, on Cellular connection.

Roon states that ARC is “Ready. Roon ARC can securely access you Roon Core”.

I could narrow the issue down to the Android version:

a. My personal phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 8) has ARC build B130 (had build 111 previously - same thing) installed and is running Android 9.0 (last version released) - issue present.
b. My work phone (Huawey Nova) has ARC build 111 installed and is running Android 9.0 (last version released) - issue present.
c. My wife’s phone (Samung A 32 5G) has ARC build 111 installed and is running Android 12.0 - no issues.
d. My daughter’s phone (Oppo A53s) has ARC build 111 installed and is running Android 11.0 - no issues.

So it seems to me it has something to do with Android 9.0.

Can anyone running Android 9.0 confirm this?

Thanks in advance.

I get the same issue, I’ve also suspected its about Android 9.0, this should confirm it.

Hi, @Karl_Piplies, thank you for your report. We enabled verbose diagnostic report logging for your account. Could you, please, do the following:

  1. Relaunch Roon ARC on your device
  2. Reproduce the issue once again
  3. Share the timestamp (your local time + timezone) with me

Could you, please, also share more details about your device: manufacturer, etc.

Thanks!

Ivan

I am afraid, i switched to LineageOS which makes it possible to use Android 11, which solved the issue. There are two threads which confirm that it’s a problem with Android 9.0:

Sorry, cant reproduce it anymore. But now Roon Remote crashes while playing on LineageOS 18.1, i will retrieve the debug logs via USB from the phone and start a new bug report in the corresponding subforum.
