Describe the issue

This is what I see: 'Roon ARC was unable to securely access your Roon Server - Please ensure UPnP is enabled on all routers so Roon can automatically configure your network for ARC.

Describe your network setup

ISP is Telenet, network device provided by Telenet, OS is Windows.

Hi @luc.gulinck,

Thank you for reaching out.

UPnP is an open-source service that comes preinstalled in most consumer routers. RoonServer relies on UPnP to automatically configure a port forwarding rule in your router settings, allowing the server to reach ARC remotely.

In most cases, we recommend that users enter their router settings administration page and create a manual port forwarding rule instead of relying on UPnP. This is often under the Firewall or Port Forwarding settings tab in the router settings. You’d need to create a TCP-protocol rule matching the IP address and port number listed in Roon Settings → ARC.

It’s worth noting, however, that your internet provider (Telenet) often implements CG-NAT (carrier-grade network address translation) on residential internet accounts. If you find that ARC can’t connect via cellular data even with the manual port forwarding rule, you might be up against CG-NAT from Telenet. This will prevent port forwarding from working, so you’ll need to rely on an alternative method.

We recommend Tailscale as a (more or less) plug-and-play alternative to port forwarding. Tailscale is a secure proxy-mesh VPN that you install alongside Roon/ARC on your server/phone. It facilitates a remote connection without relying on port forwarding - you’ll reliable get around the blockage you’re experiencing with Tailscale.

Specific instructions for setting up Tailscale with Roon/ARC on a Windows machine can be found here:

Hi @luc.gulinck,

This thread will shortly close without a reply so we want to ensure you’re equipped from here.

Have you tried enabling UPnP or setting up a manual rule?

If that didn’t work, have you tried setting up Tailscale? Our diagnostic servers don’t see a Tailscale-range address associated with your account yet, so we want to double-check if you need additional assistance.

Thanks!
