Good day @ajr !

I hope you’re doing well today.

We’re sorry to see you have this problem.

The log you have provided indicates that Roon can’t reach to servers.

In this scenario we do recommend you to try the VPN based solution.

You can find the instructions here:

.

let us know please if you have any problems setting it up.

Regards.

Hi @ajr,

ARC requires either port forwarding or Tailscale to connect to RoonServer from your phone when you’re outside your home network.

The diagnostic snippet you’ve shared indicates that Roon attempted to setup port forwarding automatically, but your router did not have the necessary service activated.

Please first follow the steps here. This will guide you to set up port forwarding, which works reliably on most networks.

If you’re still having trouble, then follow the steps that @alex_h has provided above to set up Tailscale as an alternative.

Thanks for your help so far. I’ve installed Tailscale but it won’t open when tried. I’ve noted that others have had problems with this and I’ve tried to see if it’s a clash with my router but nothing so far.

Hello @ajr,

Thank you for sharing your system information — that helps narrow things down.

Since you’re running Windows 11, there are a few common reasons why Tailscale may fail to launch. Please try the following steps:

1. Check if Tailscale is actually running in the background

Sometimes the UI doesn’t open even though the service is running.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → open Task Manager
  • Look under the Processes tab for Tailscale
    • If it’s there, right-click → End Task
    • Then try opening Tailscale again

2. Restart the Windows Tailscale service

  • Press Win + R, type:
    services.msc
  • Find Tailscale, right-click → Restart

3. Temporarily disable Antivirus / Firewall

Some security suites block Tailscale from initializing its network adapter.

If you use any third-party antivirus/firewall, please temporarily disable it and try launching Tailscale again.

4. Check for Windows updates

Tailscale depends on up-to-date networking components.

  • Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates

5. Try reinstalling Tailscale

  • Uninstall Tailscale completely
  • Restart your PC
  • Download the latest version from:
    Download | Tailscale
  • Install again and try launching it

If the app still won’t open after trying the steps above, please let us know:

  • Does Tailscale show any error message at launch?
  • Does the installer complete normally, or does it show warnings?
  • Did this machine ever have another VPN installed (OpenVPN, WireGuard, NordVPN, etc.)?

We’ll continue from there.

Hi @ajr,

We haven’t seen a response, but to reiterate, the Windows Defender firewall or third-party security can commonly interfere with Tailscale’s requests to access the network interface.

Diagnostics that reach our server from your account seem to show an IP address commonly in the Tailscale range.

We’re going to allow this thread to auto-close under the assumption the issue is resolved. However, if you’re still having issues, please reach out in a new tech support request and we’ll promptly pick up the case. Thank you!
