Roon Auto Pausing

Hi @support

I’m sorry to resurrect a very old thread but I have been looking at my Roon server and RAAT logs since having recently seen a few instances of playback (particularly of local content) just stop (transition into the Pause/Suspend state) with no interaction from me.

The RAAT log contains an entry like the one reported in this thread, recurring about once a minute;

Trace: [raatmanager/windows] failed to get default device HRESULT=0x80070490

At the time of last ‘pause’ event the Roon server log shows this;

03/25 15:52:02 Trace: [roonapi] [apiclient 127.0.0.1:50290] CONTINUE Changed {"message":"Core paired","is_error":false}

In this case I did not press PAUSE or interact with Roon controller at all, and yet the playback stopped just a few seconds into the track. The zone is a wifi connected Chromecase receiving a 24/44 stream. However I have had the same problem on my main zone which is Ethernet connected Ropieee end point.

My core is a Windows 10 1809 i7 machine with 16GB RAM and is dedicated to Roon. All end points are remote from the core machine.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hello @Tim_Rhodes,

Thanks for contacting us here and for posting those snippets, I have split your post as to better assist. Can you let me know what type of Chromecast you are streaming to? If it is a Chromecast Video, were you by any chance using the TV remote button at the same time?

Thanks,
Noris

Thanks for your response @noris

Sorry I should have made that clear, in this particular case I am streaming to a Chromecast Audio device. Which is then connected to a set of desktop speakers via an analogue connection.

Hi @Tim_Rhodes,

Thanks for clarifying that further. It is strange that this behavior occurs for both your Chromecast Audio and Ropieee zone, can you please let me know the following information:

  • What is your network setup like? Please list the model/manufacturer of your router/switches/range extenders/powerline adapters ect.

  • Are you controlling the Chromecast Audio through Google Assistant or do you have a Google Home device on the same network?

  • How often does this issue occur?

  • I am wondering if the Roon Remotes could somehow be triggering this behavior. If this is a reproducible issue that occurs fairly often, can you try starting playback and then disconnecting all of your Roon Remotes from the Core and see if this pause still occurs?

  • What Roon Remotes are you using in this setup? Please list the model/manufacturer.

  • What Roon Remotes were active when this issue occurred?

Thanks,
Noris

Hi @noris thanks for your reply, please see my responses to your questions below…

My core is a Windows 10 i7 desktop machine, my local music files are on a Synology NAS. Both are connected to a Netgear GS108E switch and run at 1gigabit.
I have an Zyxel Multy mesh wifi network that hangs off the same switch.
Connected to the wifi is the Chromecast Audio, the Ropieee (via a netgear extended in bridge mode) and all my Roon Remotes.

The Chromecast Audio is configured via the Google Home app on my phone. I have Google Home Mini on the wifi network as well but it is not used to control the CCA. The CCA is effectively a dedicated Roon end point, I dont stream or cast to it from anything else at all.

It has happened twice on the CCA in the last week, and once on the Ropieee. So not very frequently.

I’ll limit myself to a singleRoon Remote for the next few days and see what happens.

Apple iPhone 8
HP Elite X2 Windows 10 slate
HP ZBook G4 Windows 10 laptop - this is the remote that is most often used on the CCA zone

The ZBook was controlling the affected CCA zone, and the Elite X2 was also active but controlling another zone. No other remotes were active.

Hello @Tim_Rhodes,

Thanks for providing the above info. I just wanted to check in here with you and ask if you have been able to reproduce this behavior when using only one Roon Remote.

If you are still able to reproduce this behavior with just one Roon Remote active, can you please note the exact local time in your country (e.g. 4:42PM) of when this behavior next occurs?

Thanks,
Noris

I havent been able to reproduce the issue this week. I guess we’ll just call it gemlins!

Thanks for your support here @noris
