Roon cannot find the Zone

Description of Issue

I am having problems with Roon.

I will be playing it thru my main Stereo (Zone 1) and then the music will stop and Roon cannot find the audio zone.

If I touch screen (on the iPhone app) a few times it will finally show my stereo zone and resume.

This only seems to happen on the Stereo Zone, not my Sonos Zones.

Very frustrating. Advice?

Description of Issue

I have been running Roon successfully for 5+ years. Recently it is losing the Stereo Zone which is directly wired. I will be playing music and after a few songs the music stops and when I look at my iPhone which I use as the remote it shows my SONOs zones but not the Stereo Zone which it was just playing. I tap on the app 3-4 times and then the Zone and song will reappear and let me continue playing. It might do this again within an hour. Never had this problem before and it doesn’t happen when I use the wifi Zones.

ROON SUPPORT - PLEASE RESPOND. I ASKED THHIS QUESTION A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HAVE NOT EHARD FROM YOU!

Hey @Joe_Bornstein,

Thanks for taking the time to write in! Apologies for the delay in following up on your thread as well.

I see you haven’t added any network information, which would be very helpful in regards to your issue. How is your core machine connected to your router?

As a first test, please hardwire your core directly to your router, and let me know if your issue persists. If it does, please share the date and time, as well as track playing when the issue occurs next.

What are your sleep settings on your Mac core? Do you allow the computer to sleep when using it with Roon?

Does the zone only disappear in Roon, or does it also disappear from the audio/midi settings on the Mac?

I’ll be on standby for your reply. :+1:

Thank You for the follow up. First let me clarify I’ve had same Roon setup for many years without this problem. My core is on my Mac Mini. The Mac Mini is hard wired to the router and also hard wired to the stereo through two DACs. The other zones are Wi-Fi with Sonos speakers and never have this problem. Coincidentally I paused the music 30 minutes ago to take a phone call and when I clicked on Roon to resume it wouldn’t show the Zone until I clicked 3-4 times. Was playing a Tina Turner song from my library.

My Mac Mini is not set to sleep

Also the one thing different from before these incidents started was I did not have Qubuz which I now have on a free trial.

Hope you can solve the problem. Thank You

Hey @Joe_Bornstein,

Can you provide the model of each DAC? If you bypass these devices and play directly form your core to your stereo zone, does the issue still occur? Do you notice this happening when playing different audio formats?

If you temporarily disable Qobuz from your Roon account, does the issue persist?

What is the specific name of the troublesome Zone?

Let’s refresh your RAATserver database in the meantime:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder
  1. The DACs are:
    MK HiFace2
    REGA Dac

Looks like Roon no longer recognizes my first DAC

It wants me to identify it, but it isn’t in Roon device list.

I have never had to bypass the DACs and don’t want to screw up the stereo.

  1. How do I temporarily disable free trial of Qubuz without losing the month I have left?

  2. The troubled Zone is called “Stereo”

  3. What are risks of refreshing RAAT? Will I lose playlists ?

Follow the guide article and when you come to the screen shown in the second click on Disable (top right). This disables Roon’s connection to Qobuz but will not affect your Qobuz account/subscription.

It enforces the detection and creation of audio devices in Roon. You may loose zone specific settings if you deviated from default settings in the past and have to recreate them. Your playlists are not affected by this.

PS: It is always a good precaution to make sure you have a backup of your Roon database before you make any changes.

I cannot find a file name RAATServer. Could it be under another name? I have many backups but they are just a collection of letters and numbers

Try to find a folder instead as instructed? But I can’t really help here if the linked support article doesn’t make things clear for you as I’m not a Mac user.

Do you have made a backup in Roon as described in Roon’s documentation? Does Roon’s backup manager show you a current backup? If yes, then you’re probably good to go (you don’t have to look into the backups themselves, there are no user serviceable parts inside ).

Problems continue and are getting worse. Now the music stops and Roon asks if i have any Zones and Core. After multiple clicks it starts again. I updated the Mac Mini software, but that didn’t help. Still cannot find the RAATserver, could it be under a different name? FYI my music collection is first imported thru iTunes and Roon is linked to that library. I have had Roon since 2011 and never have had any problems until now. I will try disabling Qubuz today.

When I seearch for RAATserver only this pops up. Could this be the server?

Tonight I disabled Quebec and music played for more than one hour without any problems.

Well I was optimistic, BUT tonight I had the music playing for about 45 minutes and then used the remote iPhone app to insert one new song in playlist. When it came on it stopped and the system wouldn’t recognize any zones. I had to go to my Core (Mac Mini) and shut Roon down and re-open it. Then all worked fine. Sigh. Benjamin please assist!!!

Ok I think I generated new RAAT

Hey @Joe_Bornstein,

The RAATServer folder is found under your Library, which is typically hidden from search.

  1. Head to Finder and click on the ‘Go’ dropdown
  2. Press the option key to locate your Library folder - click into it
  3. Now you can search ‘RAATServer’ and select Search: Library
  4. From there, you can rename to RAATServer_old and follow the necessary next steps.

Hope this helps!

I found it under a logs file today. I edited name to “old” as you suggested and rebooted Roon. So far today it has worked perfectly for 6+ hours and I also re-enabled Qubuz. Finger crossed. Thank You,
