Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· I have a roon nucleus and am trying to install the roon client only on my Win 11 PC. I keep reading articles that insist the install will prompt me to install the server or not. The installer I just downloaded never asks me any questions and it installs both the client and the server. I don't want the server taking up resources on my pc. Hope you can help with this.

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report! You are correct in that we now share a single downloader that contains both Roon and Roon Server.

If you’re worried about Roon Server taking up extra space, even if never used, you can simply remove the Roon Server folder from your windows PC. This will allow you to keep the machine as a Roon Remote and connect to your Nucleus.

Before anything else, make sure you have saved backups of your Roon Server database.

With the server stopped, delete %localappdata%\RoonServer. That’s the local server’s database and cache. Two cautions: it’s a permanent delete of that server’s library/settings, so only do it if you’re sure they’re never using this PC as a server; and do not touch %localappdata%\Roon (the remote app’s own settings) or %localappdata%\RAATServer (needed for audio output on that PC).
