Description of Issue
Roon sees all tracks, can plan all tracks. Roon plays all tracks through the NAD amp without any problems.
Issues:
Searching for artists/albums/tracks is extremely slow on the Macbook. It takes 10s of seconds for searches to complete.
Roon is using a alot of network bandwidth. Even when I move the Macbook and external HDs to another home with gigabit internet connection for days at a time, Roon always returns to consuming the entire 1Mbps uplink at our 2nd home, causing the internet connection to be useless. How long should I expect Roon to be wanting to consume bandwidth for this size of library?
Am I just asking too much of this poor 6 year old Macbook, and should I consider a larger music server with a library that is over 250k tracks?
If you just added all those tracks then Roon will be likely still processing your library, gathering metadata and analysing the tracks for dynamic range. For so many it will take some time dependant on the cpu and the priority you have given it for the analysis in the main settings section. But it shouldnt be hogging all your bandwidth to do this, it’s normally CPU that takes a hit.
We have a very slow internet connection here in New Hampshire. What I find when it is plugged in is that no one else on the network can use the internet. If I unplug the Macbook with Roon on it, all is well. I am using Little Snitch to see network traffic flow on the computer. When on the slow network, it tries to communicate 100% of the time. When I am on my fast network in my other home in Boston (Verizon FiOS with 840Mbps down, 780Mbps up), it communicates every few seconds, but not continuously like on the slow network. Still though, after connected for several days on the fast network, it still seems to want to behave badly on the snow network.
Can I speed up the work while I’m on the fast network in anyway?

What do you have your analysis set to?
Settings-library.
My example has it set to fast 2 cores.
Default is not this.
Back with a fast internet connection now, and will try bumping up the 2 cores. It was set to throttled. I can let this run for about 48 hours uninterrupted. Let’s see how this goes. Thank you!
Mark if you have the capacity and processor cores increase it to 6 or 8.
I have mine set to 6 and when I add a couple of hundred tracks it takes minutes at the expensive of network bandwidth, but if you have plenty of both now, then it’s time to let Roon party
