Hi, I’m using Roon with a Hegel H600 for the first time and it seems like a conversion is happening, although the H600 is advertised to support DSD 256.
Roon Server is runing on a Synology DS723+ NAS, the client is a MacBook.
Please advise.

What do you have in settings for that zone for its max allowed dsd rate?
If set to only dsd64 then that’s what it will downsample streams to
According to your signal path you are using RAAT network input and according to the specs of the Hegel it supports DSD256 only by USB and DSD64 over the network:
No such option for me unfortunately.
Thanks, does it imply it’s a limitation of the current Roon implementation on the H600?
There should be if you look under advanced settings for that audio zone but its kind of irrelevant as @Suedkiez appears to have nailed the limitation over the network.
Can you try a USB connection to see if you then get the full 256dsd experience?
Not with Roon generally, just with Roon over the network by RAAT. If you connect the Roon server by USB it should be able to do DSD256.
DSD256 is about 23 MB/s, so I don’t know why the limitation via network exists.
I tried to stream to FiiO R9 (ignore the fact that it shows as FiiO R7 for some reason) using the same setup and it seems to handle DSD 256 without conversion:
Ah ok, my bad, I misread the DSD support over network in the Hegel. Too bad I guess
