I have connected my Metrum Ambre via ethernet cables through a google wifi mesh unit(no wifi) : The modem ethernet out to google wifi unit in, ethernet out from google wifi unit to ambre in. ( google wifi acting as switch)
My modem only has one ethernet out. The Metrum has the solid blue light (on) and sold green light (LAN connected).
When I go to my roon core (windows laptop on same network but wifi) it doesnt see the Metrum. it shows no network devices when I try to scan it just shows “searching for devices” I have tried restarting my computer, the metrum, un-designated and re-designated the laptop as core. Roon and Raat are allowed through my firewall.
First I would check that the Google wfi is not giving your Metrum I different IP range to you core. Check the IP.address given to each device has the same number in the 3 sets of numbers . E.g 192.168.1.9, 192.168.1 of this should appear in both. If not then the Google device is creating two separate networks so Roon can’t work across networks. If they both contain the same first three sets of numbers than it at least rules out one thing.
i have the same problem as you with my Ambre at the moment.
It is not shown as endpoint anymore.
I rebootet everything, but had no luck,
The Ambre is shown in my router configuration and i can access it through the ip adress.
i noticed, that there is a new ropieee version on it since a few days, and roon had a update a few days ago.
Maybe there ist something wrong with the firmware now?
i have no ideas anymore and will contact metrum tomorrow
Thanks for contacting support, I’d be happy to assist here. Just to confirm here, the Core is connected to the Google WiFi and not the Modem’s WiFi (if applicable)? I would try to connect the Core via Ethernet as well to verify if the same issue occurs. I would also try rebooting your Core, Networking Gear and Metrum Ambre to see if the issue still persists after doing so. Please let me know your findings after doing so.
I just wanted to verify with you here, is the Ambre now showing up as expected after rebooting everything? Are there any more issues with it not showing up properly? Please let me know when possible.
yes. everything works again.
i am not bad in network things, but could not locate the error. After 2 hours searching and a lot of rebooting everything, it works now and is shown in roon.
The Support at metrum wrote, it could be, that an update needs longer for unpacking on the ambre, so it was not reachable for longer time.
thanks for your help and good luck for William and others!

YES the GOOGLE WIFI is a mesh system however it has an ethernet wired output which is what I am using

I can not connect both he metrum and core as the modem only has 1 Ethernet output.
I would also try rebooting your Core, Networking Gear and Metrum Ambre to see if the issue still persists after doing so.
I am not using wifi for the metrum, it is ethernet wired out of my modem to the “google wifi” then ethernet out of the “google wifi” wired into the Metrum. The core is on my laptop which is wifi
As @evand mentioned, connecting both your Core and the Metreum Ambre to the same switch can narrow down where the issue lies and I would recommend using an unmanaged switch to test this theory.
I would also double check to make sure that you don’t have your Roon Core accidentally connected to the Router’s WiFi (if it is a modem/router combo) as it could possibly have different network segments and be the reason why it is not seeing the Ambre. If you are using any Antivirus Software or Firewall Applications (such as Little Snitch/Bullguard) I would also temporarily disable those as well to see if that has any change in the behavior.
Please let me know your findings after connecting your Core and DAC to the new unmanaged switch.
Ok new switch connected to modem. Wifi removed completely from home system. Metrum Ambre and laptop with Core directly to switch via ethernet cables. Lap top receives internet but metrum LAN light not on.
When I connect the ambre to the modem directly I get the green light (lan connected) But when I run it through the switch no light. I can get data to my laptop through the same port on the switch but not the metrum.
Get the frustration, nothing more infuriating than wanting to listen to music only to encounter tech issues. Swap out the Ethernet to the Ambre just to eliminate the possibility of a faulty LAN cable…
Make sure Core is running and power cycle the Ambre.
Thanks evand,
I reinstalled the google mesh and removed the switch. The google mesh has one ethernet in from the modem and one ethnet out that I run to the Ambre. I it gave me the green lan light. I removed the ethernet cable from the back of the ambre and connected it to my laptop to test and the laptop gets internet for the cable,
it works so its not a cable issue.
Has the ambre ever made a connection to Roon? I’m wondering whether the unit isn’t perhaps faulty. When the green light is on, can you detect the device on your network? (Try fing app on your smartphone to search for active network devices on the same LAN as your wifi)
I think the metrum will simply not work with a switch. I get the lan light when wired directly or through the google mesh unit but I have tried two different switches from two different manufacturers and neither work but I can get data on my laptop from the switch. Unfortunately when I use the google mesh the core doesnt see the metrum.
LAN (local area network) input: Connect an UTP cable with your local network. The Ambre is made as a Roon end point and cannot work as a standalone device. The Ambre expects a working Roon music server on the same local network.
That would indicate to me it should work on a switch, as long as Roon Core is on the same subnet. You don’t perhaps have a firewall blocking comms with Roon Core?
If it’s not network I’d take it back to the dealer and have them check the unit - perhaps a firmware upgrade or something like that is needed, otherwise my guess is it’s faulty. Regardless, if networking issues are ruled out, for the simple appliance that it is one wouldn’t expect this level of troubleshooting would be necessary.
