Roon Core on Mac can't find Sonus Faber Duetto after macOS update (ref#IVF80R)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

· Hi Roon Support team,

After a recent macOS update, Roon (running Core on my Mac) can no longer see my Sonus Faber Duetto (Roon Ready) in Settings > Audio.

Here are the specific symptoms:
- Roon cannot find the Duetto at all.
- The Qobuz app on my Mac sees the Duetto under 'Network devices' but cannot select or connect to it. Qobuz on iOS also fails to connect.
- However, Spotify Connect (on both Mac and iOS) sees the Duetto perfectly and plays music without any issues.

Here is the extensive troubleshooting I have already done:
- Restarted the Mac, the router, and performed a hard reset on the Duetto (unplugged from the wall for 1+ minute).
- Verified macOS Firewall is turned OFF.
- Reset macOS Local Network permissions using Terminal (tccutil reset LocalNetwork) and successfully re-granted the permission to Roon.
- Completely uninstalled and clean-installed Roon on the Mac.
- Disabled 'Limit IP address tracking' and 'Private Wi-Fi address' in the Mac's Wi-Fi settings.
- Ensured no VPNs (e.g., GlobalProtect) are active or running.
- Confirmed both the Mac and the Duetto are on the exact same Wi-Fi network.

Since Spotify works perfectly but RAAT and Google Cast protocols seem completely blocked locally, I am out of ideas. Could you please advise on what else might be causing this network blockage?

Hello @SULEYMAN_TALAS

Thanks for the detail. That is a thorough list and it saves a lot of back and forth. We have pulled the logs from your Mac.

Your reset worked and Roon has it. It is also not the Duetto. Spotify Connect working is consistent rather than contradictory: Spotify Connect is routed through their cloud, so it never touches your local network. RAAT and Cast do, which is why those two are the ones that fail.

What the logs show is that your Mac is holding five networks at once, and Roon’s attempts to answer discovery are failing with no route, 340 times this morning:

en1 192.168.x.xx your LAN, where the Duetto is
en9 a public address on a second interface
utun4 10.xxx.x.xx a VPN tunnel
bridge100 192.168.xxx.1 Internet Sharing or a virtualization bridge
lo0 127.0.0.1 plus several extra 127.x.x.x aliases

The one to look at first is utun4. That tunnel was up at 11:33 this morning and repeatedly before that. A VPN client such as GlobalProtect can leave its network extension running while the app itself shows disconnected, so the interface stays up and keeps its routes.

Could you please check three things and let us know?

  1. In System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions > Network Extensions, is a VPN extension enabled? If GlobalProtect is there, please switch it off entirely or uninstall the client, rather than only disconnecting it.
  2. What is en9 plugged into? It is holding a public address, which usually means a USB or Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter connected straight to a modem or ONT in bridge mode. Is Internet Sharing switched on in System Settings > General > Sharing? That would explain bridge100, and between the two your Mac is acting as a router and a client on your own LAN at the same time.
  3. Do you run Docker, Parallels, UTM or similar? Those create a bridge interface too.

We would expect the Duetto to come back once the Mac has one path to your LAN rather than five.

Hello Vadim,

Thank you for the detailed analysis. I have carefully followed all of your instructions to clean up my Mac’s network environment, but unfortunately, the Duetto is still not showing up in Roon.

Here is exactly what I have done based on your suggestions:

  1. VPN & Extensions: I completely uninstalled Mullvad VPN. I also checked System Settings > Login Items & Extensions > Network Extensions and made sure absolutely no VPN or network extensions are running.

  2. Internet Sharing: I checked System Settings > Sharing. Internet Sharing is completely switched off, so there shouldn’t be a bridge100 interface anymore.

  3. Extra Interfaces (en9): I unplugged the TP-Link USB device and an e-signature USB reader from my Mac. I checked my Network Settings, and currently, ONLY my main Wi-Fi connection is active (green). All other connections are inactive.

  4. Virtual Machines: I do not have Docker, Parallels, UTM, or any similar software running.

  5. Restarts: After ensuring my Mac only has one clear path to the LAN, I completely restarted my Mac. I also power-cycled the Sonus Faber Duetto by unplugging it for 20 seconds.

The Duetto is definitely connected to my local network and has an IP address (I can see and control it perfectly fine via the Sonus Faber app on my phone), but Roon still cannot discover it.

Could Roon Server be caching the old network routes? What should be our next step to force Roon to scan the clean network?

Best regards,
