Description of Issue

Installed Roon onto my computer which had been upgraded to 16GB RAM and an SSD drive – worked beautifully for a week – no problems at all accessing all of my music.

Then February 3rd – I think as a result of Roon’s automatic update to v1.8 build (898) – everytime I try to load Roon get the screenshotted message below:

Fatal Error

"Roon could not find WGL functions require to initialize OpenGL.

It is likely that the proper drivers for your display hardware are not installed.
Up-to-date drivers should be available from the website of your computer or GPU manufacturer."

I have updated all my Drivers, from Intel and graphics card – still get the same message.
Uninstalled Roon – and Reinstalled it – same message.

Everytime try to run Roon get this message.
Looked in Roon_log – noticed several lines similar to this:

02/05 15:21:11 Warn: Could not find function: "wglGetExtensionsStringARB"
02/05 15:21:11 Warn: Could not find function: "wglChoosePixelFormatARB"

Any assistance on this problem would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Alex Tanter

Update your graphic driver then restart your PC and Roon.

I updated the graphics Drivers (Intel and Radeon) – and restarted PC and Roon – received exactly the same error message.

I ran some diagnostics – it reported system as “running” OpenGL 1.1

I know Roon requires OpenGL 3.0, but I do not know how to (I am not technically savvy enough to be able to) install or get system to install or run OpenGL 3.0 – beyond updating Drivers, which I have done.

Hey @Alexander_Tanter,

Thanks for reaching out about this — you’ve identified the issue precisely .

A google search has revealed that OpenGL is automatically updated when you update your drivers:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/opengl-drivers/9b52324e-1083-44e1-83f7-ff2e35bf07a2#:~:text=On%20the%20official%20site%2C%20navigate,the%20OpenGL%20on%20your%20computer.

It is possible that your machine does not support OpenGL 3.0 (I believe this is dependent on the video card :woman_shrugging: ).

Sometimes, automatic Windows updates can be unreliable when it comes to graphics drivers. It might be worth uninstalling them and downloading them directly from the manufacturer. That will insure they are properly installed (rather than just clicking update).

That’s unlikely. The i5-7500 uses an Intel HD630. That supports OpenGL 4.5.

@Alexander_Tanter Try downloading the drivers directly from intel: https://www.intel.sg/content/www/xa/en/support/products/98909/graphics/graphics-for-7th-generation-intel-processors/intel-hd-graphics-630.html#drivers-software
