What’s happening?

· I'm having trouble logging in

Where are you having trouble logging in?

· I can't log into the Roon app

Describe the issue

Using an iMac Ventura 13.6.9 to access Mac Mini M2 running Roon server. Since the combined install of client/server software, the iMac crashes and the Mac Mini is updating the database when opening Roon on the Mac Mini. Cannot open roon on the imac without it crashing.

Describe your network setup

Wired 1 GB

Hey @Chris_Lischy,

Thanks for taking the time to write in! Let’s see if a fresh instance of Roon on the iMac may help:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

We’ll be on standby for your reply :raised_hands:

Hi @Chris_Lischy ,

Can you please use these instructions to access your Roon logs on the affected iMac, upload a set to the below link, and let us know once uploaded? Thanks!

Uploaded. Small file not compressed

Hi @Chris_Lischy ,

Were there other log files as well? The log you uploaded did not contain any crashes, please upload the entire Logs folder as the error might be in one of the other files.

I’ve uploaded more log files. But, after rebooting the core and the imac, things are working. I’ve done this several times in the past week and it doesn’t always resolve the problem. One persistent issue is my iphone is no longer available as an audio zone. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled on the phone and other zones show but not the phone. Curiously, ARC works fine from the phone.

New update - Roon very unstable. Had to reboot all devices and the network. Nothing on my end changed except for the new server/client combined MAC download. Did not have this issue with separate Roon Server software. And still, my iPhone is no longer an audio zone.

Hi @Chris_Lischy,

Thank you for submitting logs. Unfortunately, there was no clear indication as to what was causing the crashing and no crashes were retained in Roon logs.

So, as a test, try a) creating a Backup of your RoonServer and b) following the Migration steps here to switch your RoonServer machine to the iMac itself, not the Mac Mini

With RoonServer hosted on the iMac, does the graphical component of Roon still crash on that machine?

We’re isolating the remote-broker connection to see if there’s something specific to the iMac.

There is something broken with Roon. Seriously. The iPad app crashes. Uninstalled and reinstalled. I’m looking to go back to the client server setup and not update again. Is that possible? I don’t need any more features. Just a stable release.

I’m all apple here. iPhones/ipads/Mac mini m1 as a client, and Mac mini m2 as the Roon server. Haven’t had any problems for quite some time. ARC works better since the last updates.

Hi @Chris_Lischy,

It’s not clear if you followed the previous suggestion, so please try this instead. On every machine running Roon:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folders that say either “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”

Then, on your iMac alone:

  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Thanks. All apple as well. Very sudden and was happy for a long while. Trying to understand what happened. Agreed, ARC runs better than ever.

So far, after rebooting everything this weekend, Roon is stable. If I run into the issue again, I will rename folders, etc. Thanks - Chris
