Roon crashes on Mac when removing song file being played (ref#AN69SX)

Full form submission

What’s happening?

I'm having trouble playing music

What best describes your playback issue?

Other

Roon crashes on Mac while a song is playing that is being removed from the file system it is stored on.

And starting the Roon client on MacOS after it crashed it crashes again.

And I cannot get out of this loop. What do I do now?

Removing the cache and rebooting the laptop does not help.

Uninstalling the app and then reinstalling does not help either. The client crashes immediately.

Hi, @Rob_Kamp, sorry for the trouble. Am I getting it right that your RoonServer is crashing or is this Roon Remote app with GUI?

Thanks!

Ivan

It is Roon Remote on my MacBook that is crashing. I have restarted RoonServer on my TrueNAS in the meantime and this fixed the issue.

Playing a file from my iPhone still worked while the MacBook Roon Remote kept crashing.

Thank you, could you, please, use the directions found here and send over a set of logs from the Roon Remote app which is crashing to our File Uploader?

One quick question, is the zone which was used to play this track located on the same machine as your Roon Remote that is in the crash loop?

Apologies for troubles!

Ivan

The zone was not on the same machine. It was on a Sonos. I had this behavior of crashing with the zone on the MacBook in the past as well.

Hi @Rob_Kamp,

Thank you again for the report.

Please try the following steps. This will unfortunately delete the Queue, play history, and Zone settings like Shuffle/Repeat for the Sonos Zone in question. It will cauterize the mechanism for the crash. Ideally, there will be a recent Roon Backup available to restore these settings once we isolate the problem.

  1. Terminate RoonServer on the affected Mac
  2. Access the RoonServer Database location on the machine which runs RoonServer. On a Mac, open finder, click on the “Go” dropdown menu, and hold the Option key (or Alt)(⌥) to unhide the Library folder. In the Library folder you should see a folder named RoonServer. Open this folder.
  3. Remove this file:
    /data/RoonServer/Database/Core/user_id/transport/zone_160114525c46b60f21159a879aa02c69229c.db
  4. Launch RoonServer and see if the crash persists
  5. Restore the Backup, if available, and attempt to reproduce the crash

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

The RoonServer was not on the Mac but on another computer. After restarting the server the client on the Mac could then be restarted as well without crashing out again.
