Roon / Dirac / Devialet 800 crackling sound

Hello there @support i’ve been running Roon successfully until some weeks ago when out of curiosity i clicked on “identify this device” in the device setup tab. The sound went then crackling, so i reconfigured everything like before. However the sound is still crackling, i tried to change all kind of settings but nothing changed. Closing the dirac live application and running directly to usb out works perfectly fine…

My Setup:

Server
Imac -> Roon Server

Player
MacMini -> Roon -> Dirac Live -> USB -> Devialet 800 amps

Hello @Marc_amani,

In the “Device Setup” for the Dirac zone, what do you have the volume control set to? Do you remember what it was before clicking the “identify this device” button?

-John

Hello John @support , it was and is still on fix…

Hello @Marc_amani,

  1. For the Dirac zone on your Mac, can you try setting the Max Bits Per Sample (PCM) to “24” in Device Setup, saving the configuration, and then rebooting the Roon application? You will need to click the “Show Advanced” tab in Device Setup to see this setting. This setting may already be at 24, I would just like to make sure that this didn’t get changed.

  2. Please also disable “Integer mode” if it is enabled in Device Setup as well.

  3. Are you able to play other applications on the Mac through the Dirac virtual sound card without distortion?

-John

Hey there @support , i adjusted the settings but no change. I can confirm that playing music directly from the tidal app (thru dirac) from the macmini is working flawlessly…

Hello @Marc_amani,

I apologize for the delay in our response, we have been investigating this issue on our end and have been so far unable to reproduce this issue.

Can you try disabling the “Exclusive Mode” option in the device setup screen for the Dirac zone? This should mimic the behavior of other Audio applications on MacOS.

-John

Hi @support , toggling exclusive mode did not affect the problem. I changed now to analog amp without the devialet usb connection. (so minijack out on the macmini) and interestingly the problem remains the same…

Hello @Marc_amani,

We have been in contact with Dirac about this issue. We have a few reports of users encountering difficulties using Dirac with Roon on MacOS. At this point, we have not received a license from Dirac to test with. Once we have the license and have performed some testing, I will be sure to reach out to you as well as the other impacted users with our findings.
