Roon & Dirac integration again

May be you can evaluate a downstream Dirac enabled DSP processor like these:

Thanks Flavio. Just got a DDRC-22D. From my Fritzbox 1750 WLAN Repeater I am going via LAN Cable into a Sonore Microrendu, from there via USB into a Topping D10 USB-to-SPDIF Converter and from there again via SPDIF into my Nagra DAC. Works absolutely perfect and has been the biggest tweak to my system so far. I am very impressed!

Hi Mark,

I’m quite pleased to read that, thanks for your words of appreciation

Hi Flavio,

I tried the Audio Hijack solution, but this is not working in my setup. I have run Roon server and Roon bridge on two different machines. I have made a Audio Hijack setup with the bridge app but it does not work. So I only can use the the latest version of Dirac with the filters used in the stand alone Dirac app. So I think I have a problem when the new Dirac is out of beta.

Opening Dirac app AFTER Roon music stream on iMac works.

Not a very elegant solution IMO. Much better if Dirac would integrate properly with Roon, or at least work together to find a way to integrate the AU plugin.

I loved Dirac but once you realise you can simply load convolution filters in Roon it’s hard to go back. What would make me go back would be a proper integration as I do miss the user friendliness of the interface and the ability to adjust curves etc quickly. But not at the expense of workarounds that may be unstable or need manual intervention after a reboot or whatever. Also for the price, Dirac should perhaps provide this kind of flexibility in the software.

Totally agree. I’m using ROCK and it is so convenient I’ll not step back. The possibility to upload Dirac filters in Roon would be the best solution

Spoiler alert: according to the translation database, there are some room/headphones correction from third parties to be integrated within Roon (not Dirac).

I used to play with Dirac and almost bought a license but it’s overpriced and the lack of integration is a deal breaker in today’s world. I have since created convolution filters using REW and they sound just as good as Dirac.

I tried convolution filters but without getting the good Dirac results. I followed an excellent guide published here, in the Roon Community. Do you have any guide to share too? Thanks

I have just received a link from dirac to start beta testing the forthcoming Dirac V2. I’ll keep you girls and guys informed.

Excellent - will look forward to hearing about that.

You’re a lucky guy! I had applied for beta months ago for the very same reason (static clicks) and was never granted access to beta testing. :disappointed_relieved:

The Audio Hijack solution is working in my system (Roon server -> Audio Hijack -> Naim DAC V1) for solving the static clicks problem. However, I have the impression that the sound is slightly less clear compared to playing directly from Roon server.

Anyone else experienced this?

No luck so far, with the beta version! One must have one of the receivers of NAD, Arcam or Emotiva with Dirac included. For pure computer based systems we still have to wait…

Hi Kay-Uwe Gotz and Cantodea

it’s too early so I’m not sure that it’s a good idea but here are links to downloads of standalone DL 2.0 versions and needful instructions… be warned though, these early testing versions have to be used at 48 KHz sampling only and no support is available:

Hi Flavio,

It’s working great and a lot less latency (read: none) compared to the version I got in late July.
Awesome!

Hi Flavio,

short feedback on the beta version. I managed to do a measurement and to create a filter. The description of the different points for the measurement is much clearer than in 1.2. However, I was struggling a bit with setting the output volume. The green/yellow/red bars were not always visible and I had to crank up the volume a lot. When I finally started the measurement clipping occurred and I had to crank the volume down.

When I tried to plug the new filter in Audio Hijack no filters were offered to me. That’s where I am stuck now.

Hi Kay-Uwe,

plugins are in a different position vs. previous beta, you’ll find it here:
http://diracdocs.com/Dirac_Live_2.0_beta_testing.pdf
checked that I could use Audio Hijack with beta DL 2.0:
http://diracdocs.com/Roon_&_Dirac_Live_2.0.pdf
please note that audio capture from Audio Hijack doesn’t work with exclusive mode as that bypasses its audio capture engine, also worth noting that all music from the computer including streaming services can be Dirac corrected.

Hi Flavio,

I succeeded with the plugin, it was a stupid fault. Because I only created 1 filter, the whole plugin looked empty to me. In fact the filter was there and selected. :flushed:

The sound was very good and playing various formats worked pretty good. In Roon DSP I selected all sampling frequencies to be converted to 48 kHz, 24. However, when I tried to play a DSD-file, I experienced intermittent, very loud humming sound. :scream:

BTW: For really good sound with Audio Hijack, I have to use Audio MIDI Setup to switch the DAC to 48/24. Otherwise Dirac (or some other component in the system?) uses either 176 or 192 and the sound from the DAC is slightly less clear. This is the same with Dirac 1.2 and Audio Hijack. Anyone else experienced this?
