Roon Display on Sony Google TV not working

Hello Roon user,

Unfortunately, for some days now Roon Display hasn’t been working with my (2022 model) Sony OLED Google TV. And the Roon Settings/Displays menu says: No available displays.

So I’ve tried to find out about the settings in Roon and in my TV menu as well but I can’t come to any solution I can’t get it working again.

Who can help please? Looking forward to see your reply.

With kind regards,
Sjors

Yesterday it worked, all of a sudden. Maybe because of an ROON app Update?
But today again, unfortunately ROON is saying: No available displays. So the same Displays issue is still there, at my place.

Please be more explicit in describing what exactly you do when trying to use your TV as a display!

Have you checked out Roon’s help pages regarding using a remote display?
Here’s a link to it with the hope it helps fix you up.

Hello Marin Weigel, I try to use my smart Tv as a Roon Display through Roon Display menu, the same way like always before. Only Roon doesn’t find it, now.
With kind regards, Sjors

If it did work before, and there were no updates to your TV software, local networking components, your Roon server PC (what is it and which OS, btw?), we’d need to find out what else could’ve changed at your side of things.

So, splurge some words on telling us more about all your infrastructure, please!

Are TV and Roon Server on the same subnet?
Do you get the black screen with Roon logo when entering the web display URL?

Help the forum help you!

Thanks for your kind reply.
No, as far as I know nothing has changed. I will have a look and come back to you later. :+1:t3:

It worked before and all updates I have done as far as I know to my Tv software, my local WiFi network components and my ROON server. I’m using Apple MacBook Pro (2021) with the latest Sonoma 14.2.1 update installed. My Tv and Roon Server are on the same Wifi network, that’s my home Wifi. Yes, when entering the web display URL I get the black screen with Roon logo.
Fact is that with my new Sony Tv the trouble kind of started. And this is what my Roon screen looks like, with absence of the Roon Display icon as you can see.

Yes, when entering the web display URL I only get the black screen with Roon logo.

Hello @Sjors_Ehv
Your TV appears to be new, so are you sure you have Chromecast enabled in the settings?

May not be related to your issue, but you really should have your Roon Server connected via wired ethernet, not WiFi.

Also, check Settings / displays and verify you have Enabled the display. Like audio endpoints, displays need to be enabled before they appear elsewhere as an option.

Hello Geoff_Coupe, tell me about the Roon Server please. Is this the same as the Roon Core? That is my Apple Macbook serves as a Roon Core.

It is indeed connected with an Ethernet wired connection

Axel_Lesch yes I have.

Now Roon Display is working again, after resetting up my Sony Tv and setting it up correctly.

There are even two Displays shown in Roon Displays Settings now.

So, what was set wrong?
Maybe that information might help someone else?

Well I don’t really know. Maybe it was the Google TV setup instead of Basic Tv setting. The setup process was however a little bit confusing.

And now, unfortunately after having played music for 4 or 5 hours continuously the Roon Display disappears, into my Google TV Screensaver. It’s getting a little bit frustrating because I can’t find a simple way to get it back to work again.
Both Roon Displays that were set earlier can still be checked but there is no Roon on my Tv screen.

Right now it’s working again, after having turned my Tv off for some minutes. Roon Display starts without any problem.
