Roon dropping songs and skipping tracks from library and Qobuz (ref#652JCR)

Full form submission

What’s happening?

I'm having trouble playing music

What best describes your playback issue?

Music stops playing mid-track

Roon drops songs randomly from my library and Qobuz; at times it skips to the next song, or stops all together. This has been a constant for about a week or so and restarting equipment and the Roon server has not resolved the problem.

Roon build 1382; RoonServer on macOS 14.3.1 (MacMini M1), gigabit LAN, 1 gigabit ul/dl internet service. Players: Sonos One (ethernet and WiFi), Bel Canto Design EX1 DAC/ Pre (ethernet), iPhone and iPad via bluetooth headphones (WiFi)

Have you rebooted the network equipment as well?

Yes. All equipment was restarted.

I have the same problem suddenly… (never had it before!)

Nuc 12i7 with 16gb ram - freshly installed.
9800 albums
Devices are Hegel h590 and bluesound node 2i.
iPhone 14

Re- started my router and all netwerk gear. Also roon rock/ Nuc and synology nas.

Very annoying!!

I went through and rebooted all network equipment including the internet provider’s fiberoptic interface. Restarted all carefully in sequence, letting them finish before the next unit is turned on. The problem still persists. Extremely annoying and I really need a recommendation on how to trouble shoot this please! At present, Qobuz streaming is generally affected. I think after the restarts, local playback is fine. So the issue seems to be mostly with the Roon/ Qobuz streaming reliability. Happy to take any advice and try things. Thank you.

One thing that you can have a look at is your DNS settings.

Thanks Ged,
I have updated the DNS to use Google for now and I will monitor.

I will also add that I see the issue predominantly with a pair of Sonos One when streaming Qobuz. I see some discussions about issues with Roon streaming services via Sonos. The Ones are on the latest Sonos OS and I am using Sonos Streaming as I have found that to be more reliable in the past than Airplay. The Ones are also on Sonosnet (wireless). I tried ethernet but that did not make a difference for me. I have multiple Sonos devices in the home so the network they make should be pretty strong and using them in general with the Sonos app, or Airplay from an iOS device seems fine. The issue appears to be confined to Roon streaming Qobuz (I don’t use any other streaming service on Roon, so I cannot test others).

On a related note, the network is entirely made up of UniFi equipment. Upside: It’s pretty professional gear and generally reliable. Downside: UniFi OS offers many settings and I suppose it is possible that something is not set up properly, or optimized, although I try to keep all settings straight forward and simple, and not touch any advanced settings. All equipment is current on the latest firmware and software from Ubiquiti. The MacMini Roon server is hardwired, as are many of the components and all critical items on the network with the exception of some Sonos components, where a main unit it hardwired and things connect via Sonosnet thereafter, which historically seems to be a reliable setup. Internet service is USI, gigabit up/down fiber. All speed testing has shown it to deliver what is promised. Ping latency is 1ms, download about 25ms and upload 3ms in multiple tests.

First testing this AM after DNS upgrade is promising. No dropouts so far—even with 192/24 streaming. I’ll report back should this change. Otherwise, let’s assume that using Google DNS made the difference.
