@Steve_Richards Roon normally manages memory with a garbage collection sweep every 15 seconds. What is not normal is Roon hanging/waiting over 8% of the time it’s running with each pause taking over 100 ms. Those are numbers that you will feel as sluggishness in the UI and observe as network related failures: audio endpoints disappear, music playback pauses/stops, slow syncing to Room Labs API services and Tidal/Qobuz. For less beefy computers the pauses will cause Roon services like RAAT server, to crash and restart. Essentially Roon Server is slowing down and not keeping up with many background processes it needs to coordinate.
A Roon restart will clear the memory but if this situation is not a one-off and happens regularly (every 3-5 days) then more than likely the music library is in an unusual state and Roon is managing memory poorly after search index and database updates.
If you’re unsure what to do next, I encourage you to open a support ticket and let the professionals do a deep dive with you.
Just for clarification, the process is that if you are running EA builds, issues should be raised in the Early Access category of the forum. The Support category is used for issues with Production builds.
Thanks, perhaps I’m confused on the support mechanism, I was thinking there was some magic going on during the support entry that captured some debugging info and/or logs. If this is not the case next time I will directly enter a new topic in EA category. Thx for the feedback.
A support request raised in Support will contain information on the requestor’s Roon setup submitted by them as part of the submission process. The tech support team can subsequently pull logs from the Roon Server for further diagnosis.
For those of us running EA builds, the first port of call is always to report issues in Early Access to alert the team responsible for EA builds. They can also pull logs and will ask for detailed information on the Roon setup if necessary.
My roonserver has been almost 50 hours since last restart. I didn’t get to use much yesterday.
This morning (09.36 local when I was first browsing and selecting) the UX was quite slow. Around 10 secs to open an album. 5-10 seconds to start playback of a selected track.
This feels to me like there is still some performance drift.
I will reboot and make direct comparison of course.
Note:
Restart = instant browse and instant playback start.
