@peter_richardson i noticed something today not seen before and wondered what it is for. When I clicked on External Source Control I see an entry for RHEOS what’s this for exactly?
It really does nothing in your set up - it sends a message to say it’s loading your selection and may take a moment- eye candy to help when it’s grouping multiple zones or turning on an AVR zone.
You shouldn’t need it with the single zone which should be pretty instant in response!

Is the update on the Roon Extension Manager yet? I’m not seeing it…
Ha - no. It’s in test in docker.
I want to iron out as many bugs as possible before going fully live with latest version - which is used by extension manager.
I’ll let you know when it seems stable and ready for prime time.

I have a Denon 4800 receiver. On this receiver HEOS is limited to 2 channel. Does RHEOS do multichannel?
No - HDMI direct is the way to go there I believe.

I like the interface but want both speed and reliability - getting there … I’m really excited!

Kent, just run his extension separately like I do. You can switch between bleeding edge Test image and your production extension-manager image at will.

I would like to know if RHEOS can work with other device than HEOS . I use RHEOS for my heos device but i would like to group them with a rose hifi 250 streamer which is DLNA capable (it is a roon ready device but it is not possible to group Squeezebox devices with other category).

I don’t think that’s going to be a possibility. I focus purely on marantz/heos via the CLI that is provided.
I would love the idea of incorporating more but the HEOS protocol is proprietary and wont allow other DLNA devices to sync.
I love the Rose streamer look - and I presume it sounds goo, but I think RAAT is the way to go there.
You could consider bridging to your HEOS device with another endpoint (eg raspberry pi) or perhaps airplay may give you what you need depending on the HEOS device?

Many thanks for your reply. Don’t be sorry, it’s already great to have Rheos installed on my synology and it works like a charm. I can finally use my denon AVC-X6500H with Roon in high resolution without going through airplay. It’s brilliant. Indeed, my rose hifi streamer is roon ready but I was trying to see if it was possible to put it in a multiroom configuration with my denon AVR and my heos speakers. It’s also great to be able to stream Qobuz to my Heos speakers!
I also wanted to ask you something. I’ve got speakers in the garden set to zone 2 on my Denon. In the Rheos settings, I can enable the AVR zone control and indeed my garden zone does appear on Roon but it’s not controllable. It is not activated in the Heos application and if I activate it manually from the Heos application, the volume control for my garden on roon only works from the main zone unit. Do you know if there’s a particular setting I’ve missed? I’ve tried everything but maybe it’s a limitation of Rheos?

I am working on the zone control of AVRs to give this functionality. It’s very close to working as well as the rest of the app (its been tricky getting two way control from the Marantz AVR). I’ll be uploading a new test docker version in the next days and hope this will be ready for use via extension manager shortly, once a few of the beta testers confirm I have something that is working satisfactorily in their systems.

Question about the best host for Rheos. I have it running on a RPI4 with DietPi, but I also have a Synology running in my house. I assumed that the RPI4 was the best option but moving to Synology is not a problem. Is there a better host for the app?
@peter_richardson I know your busy with the AVR stuff, but would appreciate it if you could look into why on the Model 40n using the play/pause buttons on the remote break RHEOS.You can pause but it wont restart you just get silence it loosk like its playing in Roon but you get no sound, I have to stop it via Roon app wait until it completely stops (no signal indicator)and then resume from Roon. Is this supposed to happen? I cant test any more at moment as my amp developed a fault in the poweramp stage and is away being fixed ;( Just wondering if two way control from the RC is supposed to work.

Known Limitations
Pausing a device from ROON and then re-starting from HEOS will result in an error message (in HEOS) and returning to the start of the track.
Skipping to next track in ROON playlist is not possible from HEOS.
I’m not sure I will be able to resolve this one, but I can see how in your use case, where you use the physical remote on the amp, this is a problem. It’s actually something that, as I am exploring how to control the AVR zones, I address by using Telnet direct to the AVR. I will see if I can create something similar that that will help by ‘physically’ pausing the model 70 using TCP rather than emulating the HEOS app - but no promises! I will be testing on my own AVR and, as far as I can tell, the new Marantz models still retain the old remote/TCP functionality and codes.
The pure HEOS players don’t have physical remote - so for many people this isn’t an issue. Thanks for bringing it up.

Good question.
For convenience and stability using the version in ROON Extension Manager (a docker image tagged as “latest” and automatically managed) is the way to go. The extension should work easily on a pi 3 or 4 and the extension manager makes managing and using it so much easier.
On a NAS setup you should be able to run a direct as a Docker image and have the opportunity to play with test images. Usually I don’t upload something that fails but it does require more oversight and patience. I always appreciate the feedback.
Happy to try and support you which ever way you choose. Id definitely not do anything until the next test release is announced. Hopefully not too long.
