Describe the issue

Dear Service engineer,
I have my former CDs as Flac files on an external USB memory stick connected to my NUC (with Roon).
Recently Roon has lost connection with the music on the memory stick, when the NUC is started up.
If I move the memory stick to an other USB connector, Roon will find the music files again.
Previously Roon has alway found my music files, without any change of the USB connection.
Is this a bug in the new release or is there other more likely explainations?
Best regards, Jan Borch

Describe your network setup

Since everythig has worked OK before, this seams not necessary.

Hey @jan.borch,

Welcome to the Roon Community! We’re excited to have you here, although I apologize it’s an issue that prompted your initial post.

Can you provide a bit more detail around your process with the USB stick? What is the step by step on how you perform this swap?

It looks like our servers are having a difficult time connecting with your ROCK, could you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?

Lastly, if you could please share a screenshot of your Roon Settings>Storage that would be helpful as well. Thank you!

Dear Benjamin,
Thanks for your swift reply!
A1) USB connectors
My NUC has two USB connectors on the backside.
I pull out the USB stick from the connector where it is connected and plug it into the free connector contact.
A2) I alway turn of my NUC when I not listening to music. Please find my uploaded log files named [moderated: private email address removed].
A3) Storage information

Hi @jan.borch,

We should have been more clear we need your RoonServer_logs. The one you uploaded was your RoonGoer logs. When you have the chance please upload your RoonServer_logs.

Dear Daniel,

Please find my new uploded RoonServer_logs.

Best regards,
Jan Borch

Hi @jan.borch,
Thanks! I’ve taken a look at your logs and found the event where Roon failed to connect to the USB stick.

As you can see Roon recognizes that the drive is attached but for some reason is unavailable. I’m going to make a ticket with our developement team for this. We will get back to you when we know more!

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your swift reply.
This looks like a new bug. It has worked before with
no problem. I now know how to work around this.
Looking forward to hear from you again.

Best regards,
Jan Borch

Since you have a workaround we can close this thread for you if you’d like. But if you want to keep trying to make this work our developers noted that your model of NUC has a blue USB port and a yellow USB port. The yellow color means always on so they’re wondering which of the ports you are using.

Hi Daniel,

My NUC has only “blue” USB connectors.
Please se the NUC model in the picture below:

@jan.borch @daniel

There’s a strong possibility that your USB stick maybe faulty Jan that is if it’s the same one being plugged into said port. See what happens with a fresh stick or perhaps I’ve misunderstood circumstances conveyed.

Also assuming Rock is on board was the BIOS upgraded prior to installation and are there any current BIOS upgrades available particularly which might mention your USB ports.

Also if your knowledgeable with Linux or inclined to weather a fairly simple installation process you could in stall Ubuntu or another flavor of Linux on a flash drive or preferably USB-C. Then boot to the drive so that you can test the health of your the USB port under an operating system.

Using Windows 2Go is another option. Just food for thought inlight of Roon Support not being able to obtain accurate information pertaining to your USB though no fault of their own.

Hopefully they will have more helpful information to provide as well but those are things that I would consider. Flash drives and ports go belly up as well. If it turns out to be a port hopefully theres a warranty.

Dear Singleton,
I have now tried with a different USB stick and my albums reapear after I have started the NUC again. So I seams to be the old Samsung USB that is not working correctly. It was an expensive unit with the storage capacity of 256 GB.
Thanks to you and your collegues for all support.
Best regards,
Jan Borch

@jan.borch ,
Happy to hear this Jan.

I will alert Roon tech’s @benjamin @daniel so that they can close the ticket.
